I just installed KnoppMyth. I have a WinTV 401 (as recommended by author).

When trying to watch TV, I see an all black screen for a few seconds, and then it says it lost connection with the backend (this turned out to be caused by a defuct backend process).

However, even after restarting the machine, I cannot watch TV.

Any help?

My Hardware:

Athlon 64 3200+
512MB Ram
Nvidia RIVA TNT2 (RCA out so I can use a TV instead of a monitor)
Sound card: Fortemedia, Inc Xwave QS3000A (FM801 driver)

This is all generic, and I'm even using a card that had no problems in debian playing TV.

See the Troubleshooting Pages on the wiki, especially: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV

Thanks for the help; the page didn't help much, but I saw the problem in the logs (apparently the recording stuff wasn't set up correctly).

However, now that I can see the TV, I cannot hear anything.

alsamixer -c1 hangs (trying to adjust stuff for the tuner; -c0 is my pci sound card)

Is there a setting in mythtv I should be looking at, or is there on way to tell at this point? xD

Looking at your other thread, it looks like as tjc said your tvcard may not be supported.

Look at the card and make sure which model it is.

I picked it up from newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815116606

It looks to be the same model used by the author of knoppmyth, and was working in debian, as far as I could tell. *shrugs*

I'll return it if I have to, but everything I've seen online says it works.

Ah. This is a BTTV driver card, aka a YUV frame grabber, aka a software encoder card. You _do_ need an audio jumper with these. It should go from the port labelled "audio out" in this picture to the line-in on your sound card. Don't forget to do the appropriate mixer settings to mute the input so it doesn't go straight through to the output (you want it to get recorded and go to the output from there instead).

This has happened to me twice already, now it's just a black screen. Seems like new version of mythtv is pile of cabbage. The old version worked fine.

This what? Which old version? You're not being terribly clear. As far as the version of MythTV in the current release of KnoppMyth I've had extremely good luck with it. For me it works great and doesn't have any obvious soft spots. Are you sure it isn't a PEBCAK error? You haven't said anything about what you've tried or the errors you've seen. Have you double checked your configuration and the log files? Did you go through the list of known changes and issues in the R5F1 hints posting and apply the fixes given there? Have you been through the Troubleshooting pages on the wiki?
