I recently upgraded from R5A16 to R5F1. I have a Hauppauge PVR-250 with the silver remote.

The problem I am experiencing is that the response to the remote is very intermittent. Sometimes it works just OK (at best) but usually either not at all or it is hit or miss if a key is recognized. I tried running irw and it behaves the same way as in MythTV, so the problem is probably a lower level one.

I read the recent post http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14370&sid=10668a4f7c96bb0d8766eea68cd5836a
which shows some things to try, all were OK in my case (hardware.conf correct, devices show up, etc.)

The post references maybe needing to upgrade ivtv to 0.10.0 but it appears that I am running 0.10.1 from my log files.

Can anyone think of why the remote might be intermittent?

Thanks in advance.

See the R5F1 hints. Search in that for lirc. You should find a pointer to another thread with instructions on disabling the problematic ir keyboard driver.

Actually here it is. The fixes are out around the 3 page of the thread. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15219

I renamed the keyboard ir driver as explained in the 1st page of the post you mentioned, and it did the trick. The remote is working fine now. Thanks once again tjc...

One of the later ivtv driver versions is also known to help with this issue.
