I was reading on Xsecrets wikki and read this...

Quote:
o Motion: Motion is used to detected and record motion. It is configured to create these files in /myth/video/motion, so you can use MythVideo to view the files. You can also view live captures at http://<ip.of.knopp.myth>:8081/motion.html. Give a proper firewall/router configuration you can monitor your home from anywhere! The configuration file for motion is in /home/mythtv/.motion/motion.conf. To use MythVideo to use the clips, first go to For more information on Motion, please see http://motion.sf.net and take a look at the Motion guide.

does this mean you can stream TV using the web interface??? this would be great!! i am at work, and have no access to my box, could someone test this..

http://<ip.of.knopp.myth>:8081/motion.html

is the service motion running by default, or do you need to start it??

i have the motion streaming teh webcam video, but I dont see how to use the motion / Cambozola stream from the capture device. I tried pointing the motion software to my 250 but it grumps about invalid ioctl commands. (a 250 is NOT a webcam).

This VidoeLAN softare looks intesting....http://www.videolan.org/Anyone played with this?

If accessible to the public, this is probably crossing line as far as copywrite 'fair use' is concerned.

well like has been posted already motion is not for tv. it is for video cameras.

Why it's there? why not a cheap basic video surveillance system, a geek toy whatever the devs thought it was cool.

well i knew that it works for webcams.. i read that, but it talked about setting that to /dev/video so i thought maybe it would work for the hauppauge card as well.. Im all for geek toys, however i just assumed that it had more to do with mythtv then that. its great dont get me wrong, im glad its there ill probley play with it at some point. :) We still need to be able to stream video to m$ boxes though.. .for the grandparents and such. :( I will probley try videolan, but i would love a more seemless intergration.. like winmyth... only that works. :)

you can stream recorded programs to your win box using a little workaround.

first install the mythtv direct show filters http://dsmyth.sourceforge.net/
on your windows machine. it enables windows to play *.nuv files with most media player application. i use bs player because i can resize to 4:3, but windows media player is ok too.

to stream the files i open mythweb, go to the recorded programs page, right-click on the name of the program i want to watch, choose Properties from the menu. on the properties tab you see the complete path of the file. just select the part witch is the name of the file, like 1017_20040720150000_20040720160000.nuv, close the properties tab, open your favorite media player application, select open url from the file menu and type myth://mythtv:6543/name_of_the_file.nuv hit enter and the file will stream. since those file names are quite long, i copy/paste the name from the properties tab.

before getting a scan converter to fix a black & white tv outpout, this is the way i was watching most of my recordings.

one last thing. you got to have the right divx or xvid codecs installed on the win box if you want to watch mpeg4.
