Hey guys, this is my first post and I just wanted to thank everyone else for all the help they've given others as its surely helped me get my system up and running!

KnoppMyth is working fine for me (sound, channels, recordings, etc.) except that the TV-OUT via SVideo is coming up black and white on the TV. Absolutely everything is in b&w: livetv, mythgui, linux gui, etc. I am going through my onboard nVidia graphics card (I have a shuttle system) and out via the TV-Out on the back of the box which in turn has a composite to svideo converter on it. I installed the nvidia drivers and copied the sample tv-out file over to XF86Config-4.

Any thoughts? I would appreciate the help!

Thanks!

look in the XF86Config-4 file and look for a line similar to (I'm being lazy and not looking it up)
tvoutformat "svideo"
change it to "composite"
see if that fixes things. the converters sometimes mix up the system. basically svideo seperates b/w and color where composite doesn't, so it's only getting the b/w part, but forcing this using the above line usually fixes things.

I've got the same problems and searched everywhere for answers and they always seem to be the same as yoka's (using a svideo to composite adapter requires you to set tvoutformat to composite). Well, I'm not using a svideo-to-composite adapter but am going straight svideo from my MX 440 video card to my 32" Sharp TV. When I set the tvoutformat to svideo I only get black and white on the tv. I'm using NVidia TwinView and output to my computer monitor is in color. If I comment out the tvoutformat option or set it to composite I do get color, but a very poor washed out picture that is obviously not correct for svideo. So there's something wrong with my configuration that has to do with this.

Something else that might have a bearing on this is that I get a fast vertical scroll on the TV while booting from POST until X loads. Makes it impossible to use only the TV. Again it's fine on my monitor. After X loads if I switch to the console via CTL-ALT-F1, the TV scrolls again. I just upgraded to the latest NVidia driver 6106, but before upgrading (while using 4363) switching to the console didn't scroll the TV (again I remember a previous driver to 4363 did scroll so it seems something NVidia is doing is causing this again).

I've tried two different svideo cables and both work on a windows machine connected to this same TV. But it sure does seem like something with the physical connection because of the scrolling and the lack of color (I'm thinking maybe the color and scrolling use the same pin on svidio???). I wonder if there's something wrong with the tv svideo port on the video card. I've been fighting this for a week now since I've finally got a great working myth box (other than tv output). I suppose I could go buy an svideo to composite adapter but why do that when both the video card and my tv have svideo connections.

Anyway, does anyone have any other suggestions on getting color on my TV via svideo? Thanks so much for any help.

My video card again is an MX440 running latest NVidia driver 1.0-6106.
Running latest KnoppMyth R4V4.1.

well for testing purposes why don't you try to rip out all the twinview stuff and just do tvout. I've seen lots of people have problems with twinview, and it's rather a pain to get configured right.

I believe I tried removing the Twinview stuff before, but just to be sure I just did it again and it didn't help. Any other ideas?

Just to let you know, it was a h/w issue with the video card. The vertical scrolling outside of X along with no color led me to believe that the vertical sync is done on one of the chrominance svideo lines--which someone confirmed on the nvidia linux forum. I purchased a new card (MX 4000) today and it works with the same XF86Config-4 file. Though now I can't get to a console via CTL-ALT-F1, F2, etc. I only get one or more green blocks on the screen (monitor or TV) after re-installing the latest NVIDIA driver. Guess I still have another problem to solve.
