hi,
Because I'm recording in HD, my hard drive is little tight (300 GB) to keep recordings for more one month.

I was wondering if i could add another hard drive, format it and use it only for TV recordings.

Is it possible, and if yes how Can I do it?

Yes, it certainly is possible. See http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... driveHowTo

shame on me.. I didn't look at the wiki...

The drawback to this is that you will lose the space from your first drive if you do this.

So I can't use the whole second hard drive for TV recordings and the first one for everything else (such as videos, pictures, music)?

I think you can zetoune... I imagine what it means by: "The drawback to this is that you will lose the space from your first drive if you do this." is that if you have 2 hard drives, 300 GB each, you won't be able to combine them for 600 GB of recorded space. But you could have 300 GB of recorded space and 300 GB of compressed video, pictures, mp3s, etc.

You could wait until storage groups is implemented in Mythtv 0.21.

I used LVM when adding a second hard drive to my machine. It was quite envolved since I already had recordings (I had to do the manual steps)

novellahub: I can't wait. I'm leaving for 1 month next week.
I have two choices.
- Record everything in SD
- Record in HD on a new bigger HD.

It's better to watch recordings in HD.

I copy recordings that take too much space but I don't want to delete them to /myth/video, then delete them. They show up in MythVideo, I use directories to organize them into /myth/video/ShowName/Seasonxx/yy-Title.mpg where xx is the season number and yy is the ep# within the season.

Actually I have /myth/video and /myth/video2

The old rule about closet space applies to myth-accessable disk partitions. "The amount of junk you can't bear to throw out always fills them"

I got a big disk, formatted it with XFS, and hung it at /myth/tv using /etc/fstab. Now I have 750G just for my TV shows. Liked it so much, I got another 750G for /myth/video!
