Does anyone know if the MSI TV@Newhere will work with knoppmyth? I'm trying to find a decent tv tuner card, and I don't really want to spend the money on a WinTV PVR 250/350 if I don't have to

If this card is supported by bttv, then it should work.

I did a little research on this card mayself as it is a very reasonably priced card in the wholesale channel, and it is not supported by bttv, but rather supported by cx88 in video4linux, and it still looks like the Hauppauge dbx is the winner around here for price.

Also, be aware the MSI cards are not stereo either. I've been at hardware research for the last few days, trying to come up with a stand alone box that I can retail for $400 so price and comatibility are my 2 main goals right now. I'll detail my final results in another post once I have a working box assembled with my part list.

cx88 is at version 0.0.1 so I'd have to agree, they are not ready for prime time by a longshot.

And Dale, my goal is a $400 retail box, doesn't look like I'm able to get there yet, but I'm trying. $430 for parts is the best I've come up with so far, and that's a pretty slimmed down box but with 120gb of drive so I can produce a product that will do more than Tivo and a lower price, but I really feel if I could produce a box I can retail as stand alone for $400 I'd have a great mouse trap.

What mb & processor did you choose for that price? How much ram?

Duron 1.3ghz on a Chaintek 7NIF2 board with 256mb of ram. I had to leave for home tonight when I was loading the OS, ride leaves, I gotta go, but should have it together during the day as long as real work doesn't walk in the door. I only have a PVR-250 to play with currently, but will be using the Happauge 401 card and also have a MSI DVD-ROM along with a nice quiet case. No floppy, no keyboard, no mouse.

For demonstrating my proof of concept on the sales floor, I have a MSI 651 MEGA PC running as a server, then this new box will be the client so I can at least show some of the features of the client/server relationship. How they can stream info between the two, both are actually servers in reality, but the customer doesn't need to be totally educated, they just need to see it works and costs less than Tivo and does more.

I currently have a similar setup running but on Windows and Sage, for those that refuse to give *nix a thought, but I can't do as much, and all those liscense fees add up quick.

Setup one as a master backend and the other as a slave. If you want share music and video, you'll also have to setup NFS or Samba. If you can use KnoppMyth unaltered. If you plan to modify it, you cannot redistribute Hauppuage Windows drivers with it.
