Just made my donation. Thank you to everyone who helps out in this forum. By the way, for giggles, I tried installing Vista Premium on hardware exactly like my KnoppMyth Box. No dice. POS CRASHES everytime I try to go into the Media Center mode. Ha!
Thanks again.

Thanks for a year of Linux learning and HDTV. Check your e-mail stocking for a donation, Cecil.
My Mythtv box has filled up a 500GB hard drive with HDTV and I'm scrambling to archive off the good shows (for keeps) to free up drive space!
Merry Christmas!!
Eric

I donated for excellent work. I have been plugging away for 3 years on this and everything is not totally fixed but this project has helped me a great deal. I now run a asterisk server, ubuntu for all my desktops. It basically taught me linux.

I started messing around with Myth a little over two years ago. It was a real struggle getting things to work, and even with KnoppMyth I only reached the point where I could use it, but my wife could not...many of you know exactly what I'm talking about! I don't know how many times I compiled a new X server to try to get my video acceleration to work, but I doubt I ever did it completely right. After a while I pulled the box to use it for another project, and went without for close to a year.
Well, a couple weeks ago my wife asked if we could get TiVo...I told her I wanted one too, but for a couple reasons was not willing to do it (mostly the "tether" in the form of a monthly subscription...no thanks!) So I dug out the old box...an attractive but modestly capable, fanless rig...and tried the most recent version of KnoppMyth. In hacker parlance, "it just worked." Literally fired up with great picture and sound, fully working remote, usable tv listings, etc. Not one single tweak required except look-and-feel options to suit my taste. Somebody had been very hard at work with drivers and such to reach out and connect with my hardware.
After a day or two of use I went looking for someone to give money to...somebody had to get paid for this! I found the "Donate" button and dropped $20 in the tip jar. I like the idea of dropping some more as updates and features are added! I encourage others to do so as well...at least once if not occasionally. The software is free, but if you get real value out of it then why not reward the hard work that gave it to you?
Many thanks again to those who have worked on this great system.
[for the curious: EPIA M4000 (I think...fanless, at any rate,) Hauppauge PVR250, fanless Silverstone case]

I found this thread while searching for something else. Thought it weird that I would pay $20 a year for Schedules Direct listing service and not have to pay anything for the wonderful product that uses the service.
Thanks Cecil and team. Great product. I show it off every chance I get.
Warren.

Just added $20.00 to the tip jar.
I have been using Knoppmyth for over a year now, and use it for all my HD programming OTA.
Thanks for all your hard work. I'll try to keep up with periodic payments.

I remember trying to setup Myth soon after it first came out. Boy, was I excited for the possibilities. But alas, no way, there was just too much Windows in me. I put it on the back burner for over 2 years until I was given a free machine. I remembered Myth and headed over to see what had changed. It was maturing nicely and I found a link to Knoppmyth. Seemed like just the ticket for someone like me. I downloaded R5C7 and proceeded to install it. While it was installing I headed back to Knoppmyth only to find R5D1 had just been released. Sweet! I'm installing for the first time and there's already a new release! The hardest part was setting up the remote on the PVR-150. Man, you shoulda been there. I played around with that thing for 2 straight weeks with the entertainment center pulled apart and the wife and kids ready to shoot me. All for a remote. It was a Sunday, around midnight, and I got it too work. I bragged about it so much at work a couple of my coworkers had to come over and see it. I still get a kick out of showing it off and do so every chance I get.
We use it for all it's worth. I've made a few minor tweaks here and there and am very satisfied with it. It has become the center of our media crazed family. The only thing I'd really like to do with it is put it in a proper box and get it out of the 'computer'. R6 sounds like a good time to do that.
I'm now at R5F27 and plan to stay there until R6 or a drive crash. I try to spend at least a few minutes each day in the forum reading and I've had to ask for help before. I've been able to help out a little too, so that feels good. Pay it forward, right. This community is easily one of the best on the net, IMHO.
To Cecil and the rest of the dev's, and to the community at large, I (we) thank you. My donation has been long overdue.
