I have downloaded R4v4.1 from two different servers, burned the CD on two different machines, burned at 2X and the result is always the same: the CD boots without problem, goes to the menu, then runs the installation as requested -- until it gets to about 80%, then the display disappears, the LEDs on the keyboard start blinking and the computer freezes (IOW, crashes). At no time does the installation program report errors or problems.

The exact same behaviour has occured with all the CDs I burned (three of them).

I have been able to install Windows XP on the same machine without problem. The only strange behaviour with KnoppMyth is that I cannot change the Time Zone (I select the correct one, but when I hit "set", it goes back to US West Coast).

My hardware is: Shuttle ST61G4L, with Intel Celeron (2.0 GHz, 400Mhz FSB), ATI motherboard (North bridge: ATI RS300 South bridge: ATI IXP150), 512MB Kingmax DDR PC-3200, Seagate 200GB HDD. Both audio and video are supplied on the motherboard (ATI Radeon 9100, Realtek ALC 650F).

I would really like to use KnoppMyth and hope there is a way to successfully install it.

I think your problem is the nick on that mb is not supported, if you would like to test this theory then you could disable the nic and rerun the install all should go correctly. If that's the NIC I'm thinking of drivers for it didn't exist at the time the kernel version in koppmyth came out. The driver will be in R5, but that is not due out for a while now.

Thanks for your reply. I noticed that one of the options in installation is to disable all hardware checking. Would that work as well?

Curious if you find the source of this problem. I had exactly the same with an Asus CUBX socket 370 mobo. Even with all PCI addon cards removed (sound, PVR350, firewire and 802.11G wireless) the problem persisted. So in my case I'm sure it has nothing to do with a NIC since the mobo doesn't have one on board and no PCI cards were inserted.
I do not know if the APIC issues could apply here? Or perhaps ACPI? Haven't looked into it much further.

APIC and ACPI have been disabled since R4V3.

Strange, but yes! I could find nothing in the BIOS relating to network or LAN that was not already disabled, so I tried disabling APIC to see what would happen. I then ran the installer. It behaved almost exactly as before -- ran through all the options, did the formatting, then started copying. After a few minutes I came back to the machine and found that the display was again blank! However, this time the computer seemed to be still running and there were no blinking LEDs on the keyboard.

I waited until the HD and DVD drive lights went out and then I rebooted. To my amazement, the installation seemed to have worked! The HD booted correctly and Linux and MythTV started running. MythTV still does not seem 100% (it did not detect any of the on-board multimedia features), however it seems stable and reports no further problems.

I will next try installing an ATI All-in-Wonder card and a Realtek wireless network card. I'll try to report back after I've done that.

You just love a challenge don't you? If you manage to get the ATI AIW working there will be people worshiping you, as no one else has made it work yet.

Much as I would appreciate being a god, I have had quite enough challenges for the past few weeks, so my plan is to use the AIW card only for watching DVDs. But, after enjoying a few films, who knows...?

What do you mean when you say "disabling APIC". When I tried to install and is in 70% or 80% my keyboard starts blinking. Help!!

there is no disabling apic anymore. In the current versions apic is disabled, and requires a kernel recompile if you want it back on.

I also have this problem, but the setup only crashes when the screen goes blank. So is pushed the Shift buton every minute or something, so the screen does not go blank. This trick helped the problem. The keyboard will not blink anymore .
