Support for D-Link DWL-650+ 802.11b cards.

This is an extremely popular wireless card, and with the latest firmware can attain speeds up to 44Mbps.

Alternatively, you could add the linux-wlan-ng project:

also available as an ebuild.

have you actually tested this and gotten 44Mbps?? I could not find that speed anywhere on the linked sites, and as the 802.11b standard is only 11Mbps I am very curios where the 44Mbps came from. I have seen a couple of manufacturers that doubled the 802.11b to 22Mbps with special drivers, but never heard of 44.

And the linux-wlan-ng stuff is already in knoppmyth.

Unless im missing it somewhere:

I'd like to see support for USB IrDA devices for output to control Sat receivers.

I think this would be beneficial becuase its getting harder to find serial IR devices and USB ones are becoming more common

It's an 802.11b+ card., with "4x" drivers from D-Link (in addition to the 22Mbps of 802.11b+). Link speed of 44Mbps, actual throughput 2.5-3x normal 802.11b when used w/ the corresponding D-Link APs. I didn't see the performance improvement until I put 4.5dB gain directionals on my DWL-900AP+ APs.

Including the TI driver for that card? I didn't notice it in the dist the one time I checked it out, but am happy to be wrong.

BTW: ATM, the 4x mode is not supported by the Linux TI driver. It may be supported at some point either directly by D-Link (they promised drivers in January of 2003) or through the burgeoning native NDIS binary support.

well at least the wlan utilities are there. I'm not sure which drivers are included. I think it's the prism drivers, which by the way absolutely rock in debian based distros.

If it is 2.4 based maybe have the included kernel or an available kernel compiled with lapic disabled?

yeah I was kind of wondering what it would hurt to ship it with lapic disabled, but I guess these people that have every device under the sun hanging off their mythbox would complain cause you loose irq's.

Great Job ! But it would help a lot of people here in Europe, if the dvb-standard/drivers could be implemented. These cards are very popular in combination with Klaus Schmidingers VDR-Project -http://www.cadsoft.de/vdr/ - the linux dvb-drivers for that great digital video recorder have been developed by the linuxtv.org - http://linuxtv.org/developer/dvb.xml . The great advantage of these cards is the hardware based mpeg-encoder (like pvr 250/350) and the quality of the tv-out module.

I think that mythtv is the more versatile platform for multimedia usage than vdr is doing that job.

Perhaps it might be possible to help old europe !

I'd love to help old europe. I've asked but no one as answered what is needed get this working... I take it the drivers for linuxtv.org need to be installed and just editted settings.pro for dvb?

Dale and I are starting to work on R5. If you have a feature request, now is the time to submit it! Please use the following format:

I would like to see the following features:

Native EPIA M10000 Nemiah Support, like others, as the goal is to produce a settop box in the living room. Thats my goal, anyway, M10K Nemiah w/PVR350 and I would much rather use KnoppMyth v. having to use wimpdoze.

Add an X10 Home Automation control plugin or feature for KnoppMyth. YES, its that X10, those little modules you plug in to lights etc.. I think having the ability to setup up timers, macros, and events for X10 would fit into the "home/living room" set top theme.

X10 Home Automation Software
http://misterhouse.sourceforge.net/
For use with devices to control lights etc, such as:
http://www.x10.com/automation/x10_ck11a_d.htm

http://www.sgtwilko.f9.co.uk/bluelava/

Something along these lines would be to add features to handle 1 Wire WX devices around the home to read temps inside & outside the home etc. would also fit in too.

One Wire Weather Software
http://melhuish.info/simon/projects/oww/

Reads temp, humidity, wind senors from:
http://www.aagelectronica.com/aag/index.html

Other Weather Station Software:
http://wx200d.sourceforge.net/

I've included links to software that is Linux based that is out there.

I don't want to speak for the developers of knoppmythk, but I think the X10 stuff would be a better suggestion for the myth program than the knoppmyth distrobution, expecially if you want to be able to do this from the myth interface.

On a side note for R5 I'd like to see mythbrowser support.

Just a note, DVB is not just for Europe. While the biggest use of it is in Europe and the most prominent user in the NA market is DishNetwork/ExpressVu (Nagravision encrypted) there is TONS of FREE TO AIR (FTA) DVB for those in the US.

If your in the US from country x or an american wanting to brush up on your lanquage skills or whatever then theres a pretty good chance you can get a DVB feed of TV from your country via a 30" Ku dish and a FTA DVB reciever or card.

Alot of this gear is targeted at expatriates from other countries in the US market, but if your willing to experiment theres some neat stuff out there.

See:

http://www.sciatl.com/customers/prod_co ... annels.htm

http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/United-States.shtml

DVB support and especially of the Hauppauge & AVerMeidia DVB devices would be great.

Hmmmm . . . . DVB and PVR. . . . may just have to be a bigger box than just a set top. :D

That would be nice, but that will have to wait until after R5. We don't have a DVB setup yet (hint to mfgs here) and until we get one it would be a bit hard to debug or test out the software.

Will R5 contain some sort of solution to the APIC problem seen on some nforce2 boards?

Thanks,
