Hi all, I'm compelled to post here straightaway after such a great experience...

I downloaded the Knoppmyth ISO on Sunday and last night booted it and successfully installed on a Dell Latitude L400. Within 60 minutes I was wandering around the Myth front end and at least viewing News and Weather for the Basel area :D I would post this as a Tier 1 success, but I'm not sure that I've really tested everything is working properly in the hardware. If there are any mods there that think this is a valid tier 1 then I'll happily post it up there.

I'd spent about 16 hours trying to install Myth first with Suse Linux as a base (couldn't even get an OS installed  ), then Mandrake except I couldn't resolve all the dependencies for Myth :x

On the bright side, I've moved from zero hours Linux experience to 16 hours...there's gotta be a postive there.

You may wonder, why the hell install myth on a laptop, well, it's a test system that I just happened to have available so I thought what the hell.

Eventually I want to try to get UK Free To Air Satellite, but I'm not sure there is a card available for that yet (Nebula say they will release something "Later in 2004"), initially, I want to use Myth just as a Music, Photo and Video server (No PVR'ing for the moment)

So here's my plan for the next few weeks:

Phase 1 - Music
1. Share the Myth Music folder for my Windows PCs to access.
2. Figure out how iTunes/iPod and Myth will behave with each other (using the Myth server as the main Music repository

Phase 2 - Photos
1. Share the Myth Photos folder for my Windows PCs to access.
2. Figure out how Jasc Photo Album and Myth will behave with each other (using the Myth server as the main Photo repository

Phase 3 - E-Mail
1. Setup a mail server on the Myth system
2. Get it to download mail for me from a test POP3 account and then connect my Windows XP PC to that server for incoming mail. The aim of this. Read E-Mail from any system (Myth TV, XP office PC)

After I've done all that, I expect I'll have a bundle more hours of Linux experience.

Thanks again and I look forward to more success in the coming days.

You're welcome. Post if Tier 1if you didn't have edit any configuration files. If things just worked, Tier 1 please.

Seems that I have a few problems at the moment to deal with so that leaves me outside Tier 1 unfortunately.
