Hello,

I recently manage to install the R4V5 release, doing all the auto-install stuff.

I want to use myth TV for its multimedia features only : play MP3, audio CD , divX and browse the net.

I have only a CDROM , no DVD drive.

But it seems my CDROM is not recognised : when I browse through the 'Edit playlist' submenu, it shows No CD .

I have tried with different audio Cd but it's always the same !
Can someone help me ? It is the last step before showing proudly my machine ....

Thanks !
Hacen

I've installed R4V5 a lot lately and for some reason my DVD does not get set to the correct group.

Each time after an install, I have to follow the steps given by tjc in this thread:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2566

Specifically, as root, run:

Quote:
ls -al /dev/dvd /dev/cdrom /dev/scd0

If it's like me, /dev/scd0 will come back with user root and group something other than "cdrom" (I forget what it was set to, something like "utmp" or something similar).

To fix it (as root):

Quote:
chown root:cdrom /dev/scd0

Thanks for your answer, ceenvee703, you see, I am happy to find guys like you in this forum ...

I tried what you recommended and ... it worked great !

I dont see why the auto install sets up this directory with those rights

All in all, thanks for your precious help and hope I can help later ...

Regards

Glad I could help. Surprised, but glad.

From personal experience, it is no fun to not get a reply to a posting, as you never know why... either you have asked a question that is beneath being answered, or you've asked something that literally no one knows about, or somewhere in between.

I guess, cesman wanted to state that sarcasm is not what anyone has been waiting for. And I agree! It's not a tall order for anyone to watch his words...

... and cesman can not say it himself ? He needs you as a representative ?

What I wrote was not sarcasm, I just wanted to thank the only guy who had replied to me on an important issue for me. Nothing more.

And by the way, this

Quote:
All hail the mighty ceevee703!

is not considered by you as sarcasm ?

I suppose some can view it as being sarcastic. I was happy to see ceenvee703 provide the solution. I only used "mighty" to reflect earlier use of it(great). It is open source, we can all be mighty. I've re-read this a few times.

If my aid is useless, why are you using the distribution I started? Why are you using the forum I run, that I'm paying for?

No problem for me cesman, I knew you were involved in the distribution but did not know you were the author.

These words you quoted are not from me and are far away from what I think. I think KnoppMyth is a great great job and gathers a lot of work and cleverness.

But sometimes, cesman, you must admit you are kindda tough with new users, no ?

In one word, sorry if I seemed sarcastic or aggressive, I thank you for the great job you have done and are doing , this is far the best distribution for PVR and multimedia boxes :D
