I've been following the wiki entry for the epia 10000 (http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/inde ... therboards). Everything has been going fine, except for my NIC. I have been ssh'ing into my myth box to do all the work. ssh works great. I can also copy files via samba. The problem lies in the internet. I cant do anything from my myth box to the internet. My internet connection works, as you can see from this post. I cant apt-get update, mythfilldatabase or wget. I noticed that in the kernel config, via-rhine was set to Y and not M. So I though, what the hell, I'll set it to M. I did, ran make dep, make modules, and make modules_install. Everything should have worked. But it didn't. I can load mii.o, but not via-rhine.o. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for your help. If you need any other info from me, just ask

well what you did sounds like a sure fire disaster, since all you did is recompile the modules and not the kernel then that code is both compiled into the kernel and also as a module.

Is it to late to install the full kernel with the via-rhine modules and make everything okay again?

no you just have to compile the whole kernel. as long as you can still boot I see no reason why you couldn't still do it.

Okay, I've reinstalled the whole kernel and via-rhine as well as mii both load. However, this still didn't fix the problem. I can ping www.google.com, but not apt-get or wget. grrrrrrrr!

are you behind a firewall that blocks popular ports or something?

I am having pretty much exactly the same problem over here:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=16849

If you find the solution can you let me know, I have no idea how to set kernel configs or anything like that so if you could give me some fairly detailed walk through - that is, if you figure out the problem :)

BTW - I have R4V5 and an MII12000 and I have done the same via how-to as found on knoppmythwiki : http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/index.php?page=EpiaMotherboards

I believe that if he was behind a firewall, ping would be one of the first things blocked, to protect from spoofing ping-of-death attacks. I could be wrong about that, and/or Joe could have a weird firewall setup.

Another thing to check would be to ftp wuarchive.wustl.edu . IIRC, FTP doesn't use the same libraries wget uses, so if the problem is a weird library thing, then ftp should still work.

If he is having the same problem as me, and it looks like he is, FTP is also effected - pretty much everything except for ping, samba and ssh times out without any other errors being reported.

I also have DMZed my mythbox and the problem still continues.
