I keep getting the following error when I try to perform an autoinstall of Knoppmyth R4V4.1;

Starting MythTV server: mythbackend/usr/bin/mythbackend: error while loading shared libraries: libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1:cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I seem to get through the initial phases of the autointall just fine but for some reason it cannot find this library. I have looked in the forums and also the FAQs but cannot figure it out. I did try to run the install-nvideo.sh script but that didn’t seem to help. I am sure I am missing something but I am at a loss as to what. Here is what my hardware looks like.

Asus A7N8X-deluxe
AMD processor
Hauppauge 350
ATI 9000pro
Soundblaster live

the install-nvidia.sh script is only for nvidia graphics cards, ati does not support xvmc, so you cannot install the xvmc version. install the version without xvmc and you should be fine.

I also get the same libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1 error. My system is a Shuttlex w built in video (SIS?) also hauppauge PVR250 - so no nvidia.

What is it that I need to uninstall? knoppmyth alltogether? Once that happens do I start from scratch and type "install-i686-x" (I have celeron)

If you do not have a nvidia video card forget that the -x option exists and do not choose xvmc from the install menu you cannot use xvmc.

install-i686-x is the problem. XvMC is built against nVidia's drivers.
Code:
dpkg -r mythtv-i686-xvmc
dpkg -i /usr/src/r4v5_src/mythtv-0.16/pkgs/i686/mythtv-i686_0.16-1_i386.deb
Path maybe slightly inaccurate, working off memory.

I have the same error, but now I know not to choose xvmc from the install menu it's too late -- I can't get back to the install menu. How do I get back to that step? running mythtv-setup just kicks me out with that message (about the shared library not existing).

well you obviously found this post did you not bother to read it? the very last post before yours should be close enough to figure out how to fix it. versions will be a little different now, but still.

I found the post after the event, so reading it by then was too late. I think my problem wasn't quite the same actually, because it was only the result of running the initial setup (the one you get after typing in the root password on the very first boot) -- where it asks if you have an infrared remote and if you can do xvmc. I'd wrongly ticked the box that I could do xvmc, and from that moment on kept getting the error described. I since rebuilt the box from scratch -- didn't tick the box the second time around -- and haven't had the problem since.
