I noticed on the KnoppMyth forums top menu there is a "Usergroups" but when you click on it the forum reports "No Groups Exist".
How can I start a Dayton Ohio area KnoppMyth usergroup? Ask the administrator? Is there a form to fill out?
Is anyone interested in a Dayton Ohio Knoppmyth usergroup?
Thanks!
Andrew Lynch

Ask the admin... None are defined.

OK, looked at the MUGs. I think we have a Catch 22 situation. Nothing exists and no one joins because none exist, and so on.
How about if KnoppMyth users local to Dayton Ohio reply to this thread we can see if anyone is interested in starting at least a usergroup here?
IF YOU ARE LOCAL TO DAYTON OHIO PLEASE REPLY TO THIS THREAD INDICATING WHETHER YOU WOULD LIKE A USERGROUP FORUM. WE CAN DECIDE WHERE THIS GOES BASED ON RESPONSE AS APPROPRIATE.
THANK YOU.

My guess is that you could well be the only person in Dayton using KnoppMyth and monitoring this forum...

That could be. I reviewed the memberlist and did see a few Ohio people and a couple Dayton locals on there. Who knows how old there accounts are and if they are still active. That presumes any of those would be interested. You never know.
Oh well. It was a good experiment.

Nah, there are people from Dayton Ohio on this boards (some since the early days of Knoppmyth). Just no one from Dayton interested in a Dayton user group!

I realize this idea is probably a dud but if anyone in the Greater Dayton Area decides they are interested, I set up a MUG on mythtv.info
If this applies to you, please consider joining up. It would be cool to see others in the region with Myth boxes and compare notes.

Andrew,
If you have a local LUG, have you considered a MythTV SIG in the LUG?

Yes, there is a local LUG and I am going to contact them to see if there is any interest in them about MythTV. I have not dealt with them in any way previously except after your post I did a google to find out that the Dayton LUG does exist as a SIG under Dayton Micro Association.
I am going to follow up on this to see what shakes out.
Thanks for the suggestion.

PS, The DAY-MUG idea may sound futile but don't write it off too quickly. On a similar lark I started another even more seemingly hyper-specialized group (read: futile) group (firefly-ohio) last July to organize Ohio firefly events or "shindigs" and now that group has taken off like wildfire. I never would have thought so many people would be interested. There are over 65 people in the group now, forming groups of friends, chatting, having firefly parties, etc. A lot of the active ones on the list are "super fans" and real activists that were just looking for a local forum to get rolling.
Now, I have no idea what they are talking about most of the time but it is really fun to go to events. I thought I was the only one in Ohio that liked firefly. Guess not!

OK, I contacted the local Dayton Microcomputer Association Linux SIG about MythTV. Oddly enough, they are having a (tentative, apparently) MythTV presentation for this months feature. Unfortunately I am going to on a business trip during the next meeting so I will miss their presentation.
I am not a member but they allow non members to join and post on their mailing list so I joined it and posted a quick DAY-MUG message.
The reaction has been mixed as you'd expect. Thats OK.
The new members are trickleing in. I expect it will take a while for the word to get out. Nothing beats word of mouth and once "critical mass" occurs the list membership will go up and down on its own. Right now though its "beat the bushes" to flush out the local MythTV users.
I just wanted to say thanks for the pointer to the DMA Linux SIG. That was a really great idea. Hopefully more folks will join up to DAY-MUG as the messages get read this week.
Any other insights?
Thanks!
Andrew Lynch,
PS, as always, KnoppMyth is great!
