I am trying to install R4V5 but the network card is not working.
I think the built in nic is a MAC LAN (nVidia).
When I do an ifconfig I only get the loopback interface.

My motherboard is a chaintech 7NIF4 with the Nvidia nForce2 IPG + MCPS chipset.

netcardconfig does what? If a NIC isn't found, modprobe forcedeth then netcardconfig again. If this works echo forcedeth >> /etc/modules

Netcardconfig is not working I get

Code:
No supported network cards found

modoprobe forcedeth is giving me this

Code:
/lib/modules/2.4.25-chw/kernel/drivers/net/forcedeth.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.25-chw/kernel/drivers/net/forcedeth.o insmod /lib/modules/2.4.25-chw/kernel/drivers/net/forcedeth.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.25-chw/kernel/drivers/net/forcedeth.o insmod forcedeth failed

I checked the dmesg but didn’t find anything (don’t know what I am looking for)

not sure what chipset that mb has, but you may want to download the nforce drivers from nvidia and see if their driver see's your NIC.

It's essentially the NVidia Nforce2 IGP based 7NIF2 that Cecil uses, plus SATA support due to an upgraded from the MCP to the MCPS southbridge. Actually, I think he even says that in the original post. In anycase it should be using either the NVIdia drivers or the forcedeth drivers for it's built in NIC.

when you tried the new drivers what module did you try to load?

with the official nvidia network drivers I believe it's called nvnet

I installed the driver with the command
Code:
sh NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.0-0292-pkg1.run

I added the driver
Code:
cat > /etc/modutils/network
alias eth0  nvnet
(Control-D)
/sbin/update-modules

Rebooted but it is still not working.
I am sure I am missing something important but what ?

did you try to run netcardconfig again? and this may sound stupid, but at this point with hardware that should work without doing anything it's worth a shot. Have you checked to make sure you don't have the NIC turned off in the bios?

Bettosh,

i just installed on this motherboard too. when you boot up hit delete to go into your bios. you'll need to look around to find onboard settings or onboard hardware. my NIC wasn't enabled by default. once i turned it on KnoppMyth found it and used it without having to do anything else.
