I have had my R4V5 system running for quite a while, some crashes here and there decided to go to R5A12. Booted the disk did an "auto upgrade" install. Seems to have gone MOSTLY smoothly. I followed the suggestion for getting LIRC working, the 2nd suggested modprobe string worked.

The only oddity was that the backend wasn't starting automatically.

After some investigating the primary problems SEEMS to be that the installed created a 2nd "mythtv" user (the name I run everything under) and a 2nd "mythtv" group. The original seems to have a PID and GID of 1000. The new seems to have PID and GID of 105. Anyway, I deleted the 105 and need to do some more testing but things seem pretty good now. Hopefully my commercial detection causing the backend to crash is now fixed and the general crashing now fixed (usually after playback is finished).

Search the forum, there is another thread discussing this exact issue within the last few days. You should probably use find / -nouser -print and find / -nogroup -print after you delete the extra UID and GID.

You created the second user mythtv upon install. If you read the docs, you'll clearly see that you shouldn't do this because that user is already created for you. You deleted the wrong one.

Yes I see that now. I missed it before. Oh well. The system runs. Mythfrontend locks up a lot, the system crahses a fair bit, pause works but unpause doesn't seem to work anymore, but it is installed.
