I have been trying to get this system running. I have a ASUS P4C800-E with P4 at 2.4ghz motherboard. I am trying to install Knoppmyth R5A10 on this system, when the system starts up, after launching Knoppmyth, it gives me a error PNPBIOS FAULT and to start with NOBIOSPNP, which I have no idea how to fix this. The system proceeds to install everything, but when I go to launch mythfrontend, and watch TV, it locks up on me with black screen and unresponsive to any keys from the keyboard. In order to get out, I have to reboot the system. Could this be caused by PNPBIOS FAULT, or something else please? I have searched and downloaded new bios for this board from AUSU site, but I still get that fault. Any help would be great, also I forget to mention that I have a Gforce 5200 grahic card and pchdtv 3000 in the sysyem

In your BIOS is PnP OS set to yes? If so, change it to no.

Thanks for suggestion, I checked bios setup and PNP is "off". I thought of turning it on and gave that a shot, I still got the same error. I reset it back to "off" and it still gave me the same error. Thanks for the help though, any other suggestions please?

Not really, I have gone into the bios and made sure it was "off", but upon restarting system I still had the problem, maybe it's just my board or hard drive, I'll have to try it with another drive. Sorry, I couldn't be more of help.

got P4C800-E delux working, BIOS setting for PNP had no effect ,
on or off both locked up

got it working, and here are the secrets I used

at CD bootime, instead of waiting for it to self start linux

secret options: [they both worked for me] type
knoppmyth pnpbios=off atapicd <enter>

NOT knoppix, NOT nopnpbios What a pain to
spend over 14 hours trying all possible combos.

That is great, I have an ASUS P4B533, I know it is not the same, but similar and I have some funny things at startup as well.

I have to ask, what is the atapicd option do?

Just what is says, atapicd. ide-scsi emulation isn't used for CD/DVD burners. ide-scsi has been removed from the kernel in the next release as well. cdrecord --scanbus dev=ATAPI
