Just follow the instructions. If netcardconfig has a problem detecting your network adapter or getting an IP it will tell you. After doing netcardconfig, you can type ipconfig<ENTER>, which will display your IP. You can also ping a site(apple.com always seems respond) to verify network connectivity.

i typed in Cable for video source name, set xmltv listings grabber to north america

now in the tv_grab_na configuration

i type my zip code...it accepts 4 digits, my router lights blink for a few seconds, then it adds the 5th digit...but thats it, NOTHING ELSE happens!

And the errors are? You won't be able to go further until you get the latest xmltv.

the errors when attempting to get the latest xmltv are as follows (pretty close, but i dont remember the exact paths so im using the ones that r similar on a page i found on a google search when searching for the errors):

W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Odd as this usually means apt-get or dpkg is already in use. Surely you're not running more than one instance of dpkg or apt-get?

these errors also appear when you try to run apt as a non root user.

Make sure you are logging in as root to run apt and the scripts.

When doing the install, did you get any cloop errors? Keep trying apt-get update, still getting the same errors? Very odd indeed...

i dont know what a cloop error is but it doesnt look familar...

everytime i do apt-get update it scrolls thru a whole lot of stuff, once in a while i see a percentage but most things say 404 at the end

and apt-get install xmltv still gets me the same as in the above post

Ok, finally did a apt-get update...Looks like ftp.de.debian.org is down. vi /etc/apt/sources.list and change ftp.de.debian.org to ftp.debian.org in all entries. Once complete, apt-get update then apt-get install xmltv.
