When I boot the machine, I get a blank screen with audio when I try to watch live or recorded tv with the automatically started mythfrontend. Its the fvwm thing that starts the frontend for me automatically, correct?

When I exit out of the mythfrontend and start it manually from an xterm, everything works perfectly!!! So then I tried to start the frontend from the fvwm root menu by selecting mythtv, and I get the blank screen again. One weird thing that happens sometimes when starting mythtv from the fvwm menu is that I actually get a picture but its dark(as if the brightness was lowered), which occurrs after having started/ended the frontend (which I started from the xterm). This makes me think there is a setting in fvwm thats causing the problem. Hopefully there is an easy fix for this :)

IM SO CLOSE TO HAVING THIS DONE, I CAN TASTE IT!!!

Truly odd. The only thing I can think of off hand is Xv. Does your card support it, if so do you have drivers that enable it?

Ok, didn't realize you were using a 350... If you followed the directions on the ivtv wiki, I don't know what to tell you... Sorry.

Ok I its not fvwm at all. I installed knoppmyth on 2 different machines (550mhz k6-2 and 1ghz Athlon) and I'm actually getting the same problem on both machines when I start mythfrontend from any user other than root. Is this a problem whith a file permission somewhere? Looks like I am screwing up a setting somewhere since its happening to me on 2 totally different machines.

Finaly found the problem!!!

/dev/fb1 file permision needed to be set to rwx for other and it worked. Now tv-out is working beautifully from startup.

before:
ls -l /dev/fb1
cr--r---- root tty /dev/fb1

after:
ls -l /dev/fb1
crwxrwxrwx root tty /dev/fb1

For looks like mythtv is not part of the tty group so it could not read from the file.

Now all that is left is getting the remote working :)
