when I hit CTRL-ALT-F1 (through F6), all I see is a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen. The rest of the screen is black. Then, when I hit ALT-F7 to get back to X the frontend window is smaller and doesn't fill up the whole tv. I can see the desktop around all edges. When I am in the black screen/flashing cursor mode I can enter commands, I just can't see what I'm typing, or any other output. Does anyone know what is causing this?

This problem went away recently when I did a fresh install, but as soon as I did an upgrade install it came back. So, I'm assuming it's something I did way back in the day (maybe to get my PVR-350 tvout working) that is now still haunting me. I'm using an FX5200 for output now.

Can someone at least tell me where to start looking into this issue? I'd like to upgrade to 5A22, but I would like to resolve this prior to upgrading so that if I run into problems (like installing nvidia drivers) I have some feedback I can see.

thx.

I guess someone needs to read the annoucement and changelog. The nvidia drivers are installed automatically.

Try changing vga=xxx to vga=normal in your lilo.conf file. Remember to run lilo after the change also.

Cecil: Obviously this creates problems other times than just the install. That's cool that you automatically install the Nvidia drivers, but that only addresses a symptom of my problem not the problem its self.

Jake: thanks for the suggestion, but vga is already set to normal...

Well, I found the problem. As I mentioned before I originally was viewing output from my pvr-350. My problem stemmed from that. I went back through the instructions to getting tvout to work on the pvr-350 and saw that the changes to the ivtv module where still in place. Once I removed them, the funny business went away.
