I just fixed the problem I had with Knoppix not loading whatsoever (http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=38424#38424) and when it asks me for my root password it rejects it.

Thats correct folks, it simply says that I entered the wrong password. I even tried the 'user' password, but that doesn't work either. WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS MEAN!!!! I installed using the manual install (I have SATA drives) and it asked me for my desired password and now it won't accept it.

My root password is 8 characters, four letters followed by four numbers (eg: aaaa1111) My user password is 6 numbers (eg. 111111). Is there some kind of limit or problem with using that amount of numbers?

I really want this to work, but I've been having the worst trouble with it![/url]

Caps Lock? Remember case matters in Unix.

Try booting from the CD, using the menu option to exit to a shell, mounting the HD, and using chroot to make it your / directory, then runing the passwd command to force a new setting. There are more detailed instructions around somewhere...

I am starting from scratch again since I just got a new 300GB drive today.
I didn't see R5A26 was out, so this problem appeared with R5A16 when choosing to do a manual installation.
The user I created did NOT get created, and the root password was never set.

If you plug in a keyboard, and do CTRL+ALT+F2, log in as root, you never get prompted for a password. Run 'passwd' to change the password.
Reboot, and now your password will work.

I am burning the R5A26 CD right now, then doing a fresh install again to see if I have the same issue.
