I am a newbie on MythTV and debian. I have installed Knoppmyth and have itrunning on my tv PAL. It's really great. My setup is based on a Hauppage PVR-350. Everything worked fairly easy when i followed postings on the Wiki. I had som troubles setting the Danish channels up but figured it out in the end. I have documented my setup so if any danish readers would like the setup i can post it here.

I have two major problem left. Problem on is when i Transcode recorded shows or when i play a DVD i can get no sound. When playing non transcoded recordings or watchng tv everything works ok. I guess that it must be a mssing codec for the transcoded sound.

I have searched the forums and wiki's without any luck. Is there enybody that knows how I can get the sound fra DVD or transcoded recordings to work.

Problem two is that Xine displays that it is missing frames due to lack of processormuscle when playoung DVD's. I have setup myth to use the PVR-350 hardware on tv-out. My CPU is a celeron 1300. From what I read this should be sufficient when using PVR-350 hardware MPEG coder/decoder.

I have come a little longer with this issue. when I install external speakers on the soundcard audio out it plays the sound of dvd's nicely but no sound comes from watching of tv. Apparently there is somethng wrong with the routing off sound from the dvd-drive to the PVR-350.

I am using the Scart cable that came along with the PVR-350. I have tried to route the soundcard audio-out to the audio-in on the PVR350. I have tried to connect the 3.5 mm minijack from the PVR scart to the soundcard audio-out. All leaves me with no sound on the TV when playing dvd's. I have had the internal sound cable from the DVd drive installed and not installed with no difference.

Does anybody know how to get the sound from the dvd drive to the PVR-350 and further to the tv.

Maybe it the same routing problem that gives me errors from xine when i play dvd's. The error is "the amount of dropped frame is to high, your system may be to slow........"

If I run Xine-check everything is good except my X-server. The check tells me that I am not running YVI2 overlays and that X doesn't support Xvideo. How do I fix this?

Hdparm tells me that that DMA is on on both /dev/hda and on /dev/dvd

If anybody has a clue to how i can fix these problems it would be great.

My setup is:
IBM netviste celeron 1300, 512Mbyte ram
300Gb diskdrive
Sony DRU510 DVD
3Com wireless PCI
PVR-350 with tvout enabled to PAL connected to PAL tv through Scart

you obviously didn't search too hard this is a FAQ when using the pvr350 for tvout you have to route it's sound output back through the soundcard if you want everything to play audio.

Sorry but i have tried to search with no luck. I have read several postings on how to set up the PVR-350 and have come far. I have also tried to set up different cables to route the sound from the PVR-350 in trough to soundcard and the soundcard to the cables to the tv but with no luck. maybe it is because i use the scart cable that came with my pvr-350.

Maybe it is my lack of knowledge in this

With the scart cable there is three ends. one for the Tv(scart connector) . one for the PVR350 (sort of Svideo like connector) and a 3.5 mm jack. I have connected the 3.5 mm jack to the audio in og the soundcard. I have a cable from the audio out on the soundcard til the audio in on the pvr350.

I have tried the reverse. Having connected the scart 3.5 jack to the soundcard audio out. nothing helps.

I have searched to find aut the connectivuty of the scart cable and what connection there is in the 3.5 mm jack on the scart - is it audio out from the pvr350 or is it audion in for the tv. no matter what I do it seems like the sound that goes to the tv comes directly from the pvr350 inside the scart. maybe i should have en other connector cable for the pvr-350.

With that many KnoppMyth boxes with pvr350 out there i guess somebody has tried this before me so i somebody must have the answer.

For what it's worth, I'm strugling with the same issue as you. Actually, I think I've come a little further than you.

I've connected the jack (on the PVR -> scart cable) to the soundcards "mic" (I have no "line-in"). Unmuted "mic" and raised it's volume.

Now I get audio. The problem is, that the audio (fed through "mic") is from tuners "channel 1", no matter what channel/recording I'm watching, while at the same time the audio from the TV is correct.

And this is where I'm stuck.

Actually, the audio I'm getting is from the channel the TV's tuner is tuned into. So the audio from the TV is fed back into the scart and into the soundcards input-line ("mic").

So how am I supposed to get audio from the PVR to the soundcard?

well sounds like you guys are doing it bacwards, though I have no idea what scart is we don't use it here in the US, but sound should go form source (scart?) to input on the pvr350 (this is assuming you aren't using coax) then it should go from sound out on pvr350 to sound in on your sound card (linein/micin) then from sound out on your sound card to output device (reciever/tv)

I'm not quite sure I'm following you. To me it sound's as if your suggesting to loop the sound. Ie. for DVD-playback, connect the source (soundcard) to the PVR's line-in and then back into the soundcard?

I'm sure that's not what you mean. Anyway, I'm not a tech-wiz when it comes to cabling, so It's very possible that I'm doing something wrong.

With the PVR came 2 cables that connects to the PVR's A/V-Output connector.

One splits out into L/R-audio, composite and S-Video (possible the cable you use in the US).

The other one splits out into SCART and a jack. SCART ofcourse goes into the SCART-sockets in the TV (or VCR). But where is the jack supposed to go?

I'm starting to suspect the this cable is bad since it holds the TV-Tuners Audio. What purpose would that serve?

Guess I'll have to go with the first cable to find a solution.

No I'm not saying that dvd audio(sound card) goes to the pvr card. I'm saying that the pvr audio out (however that is acomplished goes back into the soundcard linein/micin then the soundcard audio out goes to whatever device is connected to the speakers that are actually going to play the sound.
