I can't get my network card to connect at more than 10Mb/s, so I thought I would try an updated driver.

The networking is built into the MoBo ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe (Intel integrated 82547EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller).

It uses the e1000 driver that is built into the kernel. I am not sure how this should be done. Do I need to recompile the kernel with the updated driver?

Alternatively, does anyone else have this problem with a P4C800-E Deluxe?

My usual advice is to go out an buy yourself a cheap d-link NIC (DFE-530TX+) for your spare parts box. Unless you're a starving student the ~$15 is money well spent. It might take the drivers a while to catch up with your mobo networking and it's always good to have a spare NIC around.

With the newest release one of the guys around here was able to retired his, but I'll bet he still thinks it was money well spent.
