Hi -

I've googled till my mouse-muscle hurts! No luck on this one -

I have gotten xmame to load within mythfrontend now, but the screen comes up a blue garbled jumbled up mess, and my machine locks up, requiring a hard reset.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my nvidia drivers. I have loaded the latest NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg1.run from Nvidia, but no luck.

Anyone have ideas or pointers on this?

Thanks!

If you are certain it has to do with the nVidia drivers why not remove them(nVidia docs should say how...)? The latest nVidia drivers have been reported to be problematic.

I got it.

http://www.podtronics.com/knoppmyth/FAQ.htm

Showed me how to get the nvidia driver installed.

Then I did an

nvidia-installer --update

Now xmame works.

I am seeing problems with my virtual terminals (alt-ctl-f1) at the moment, however. just junk on the screen.

So... maybe I'm not out of the woods yet.

update.

Aparently the latest drivers do fix mame, but break the virtual terminals.

You can uninstall with

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run --uninstall

And running install-nvidia again, then reboot, will restore your virtual terminals. Then mame's broken again.

Looks like driver issues for me.

My card, by the way is a GeForce fx5200

I write this to log my own activity, and in hopes that others may glean info from it, as I have from the other posts on the forum.

Thanks, Cesman

You're welcome. If you are connected TV you probably need to specify ConnectedMonitor for virtual ttys to work.

and you may want to search the net and try the 4620 beta drivers they support the newer cards but have less problems than the latest ones.

I get the same problem out of the KnoppMyth box and my GF4 ti 4400 card.

I'll post if I figure anything out.

I'm getting the blocky garbled screen on xmame. However I can ssh into the box, but there doesn't seem to be a good way to release the monitor resource, even if you kill the xmame processes.

well in my experience the problem with nvidia drivers and the console has always been framebuffer. If framebuffer is on you usually experience problems switching to virtual consoles. The bigger problem is getting framebuffer to turn off. I can't remember what all I had to do now, but I know I fought that one for days the last time I experienced that problem.
