V4L, switch to mpeg2? I didn't know if the 150 and 500 were covered. I just tried it, same thing. Which source and input setting should I use?

You need to read the MythTV docs. Direct a browse to the IP of your backend.

Well, I got a picture! Its all static, nothing changes when changing channels. I removed the option for another tuner connected to the device. It had ch3 as the default. Go figure.

About the static, any ideas?

New Finding: Video0, Tuner1 provides colored static. Perhaps a frequency change?

Edit: Its in color even when cable is not plugged in.

I also just realized it had channel information for my digital cable and not basic cable. Basic cable is what is selected under linups, so im trying to fill the database again.

For a PVR-500 configure it as two MPEG capture cards.
    card 1 - MPEG: /dev/video0 - tuner0
    card 2 - MPEG: /dev/video1 - tuner0
Then under Input Connections associate your "Video Source" e.g. "Cable" with both instances of Tuner 0, but nothing else.

If the "us-cable" frequency set doesn't work try selecting "us-cable-hrc" under General.

I tried both, nothing is working. Static.

EDIT: cable is still static, but the composite works for the video0 w/ audio on my ps2.

This is far too weird.

We need the ivtv section from your dmesg log. See the wiki page on "CheckingLogFiles". Also search the forums for threads that mention "PVR 500 Samsung" there is a new version of the card that isn't well supported yet. You can get some function by forcing it to use certain tuner types.

Yep, that's the info we wanted, and it looks like this is the bad Samsung card.

Try searching the forum for "pvr 500 samsung" which should turn up a thread with the details of a work around...

Anything I find is not 500 related. Nothing.

See the wiki under CompileIvtv. There are directions for upgrading to version 0.4.2 of the drivers which supports the Samsung tuner on the newest batch of PVR-500s. Don't miss the part at the end about editing configuration files.

I followed the directions on the wiki: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

After doing that, I started up mythtv and immediately it went to cbs, did about 4 frames, and froze for about 20 seconds. Then it says: "Error encountered while diplaying video." and gives me an option to return to menu.

What would cause this?

*EDIT

A reboot fixed this problem. All is well so far. Thanks guys!
