I just install R5A30.1, and I cannot ssh into my box. What do I need to do to enable it?

Enter the correct password?

I've got R5A30.1 and ssh works for me.

Is there a different password for ssh by default? I enter the user name and password and it says access denied.

Hi oblib,

I hate to be the one to carry the bad news, however you may be comforted to know that it is most likely operator error. This is of course assuming the network is up and connected.

Two things to consider, you are doing ssh from a Linux machine or a window$ machine as the procedure is slightly different. Some one else will have to help with an Apple system...

First, Linux:
If you do not have an account, you don't get in. So that would mean that if you are logged into your special flavor of linux machine as xyorz and you want to ssh to your KnoppMythBox you would require an account there as xyorz. The ssh automaticly uses the current user as the login. You could become your local su and then login to the 'Myth box with ssh.

Second, Other:
If you are using the other os with PuTTY then you have the choice of who to login as, root, mythtv, and the user you created at install time each with their respective passwords. When you make the connection, it will ask for a Login. Also, be sure port 22 as that is the ssh doorway.

Hope this helps.
Mike

Thanks Mike, but I'm not quit that newb :) You can log in under a different name with -l (ssh 192.168.0.xx -l root). I used to be able to get into this box before I reinstalled Knoppmyth. I guess the default security access was changed between versions, because I used to be able to login under the chosen username or root, but now only mythtv/mythtv (thanks graysky, I was trying myththv/mypassword).

Hi oblib,

No problem as we don't have skill levels asigned to the user names. Maybe it will help someone anyway..

Upgrades and installs wipe out any added users. I believe only mythtv user home is preserved in the backup.

Have a great day!
Mike
