I've been running into an audio problem that I can't seem to track down.

Since I'm fairly new at Knoppmyth, I'm not sure all of the information I can provide.

Knpoomyth RA26
P4-2.8 (northwood)
ASUS P4P800
PVR-500MCE (NTSC)
SBLive Xgamer
MX4000 PCI (svideo out)

With the exception of channel 5 which is a little snowy (but shows up fine when the cable TV is connected directly to the set), Everything is working really well.

When I tune to channel 2, the audio is a bit choppy most of the time (live/recorded). I've enabled the "extra audio buffering" option and made tried syncing to the video for timing, but it doesn't seem to have any impact. I started out using the onboard sound on the P4P800, and though that might be a contributing factor. Installed the SBLive to see if it would help.

The audio is clipped at some times, but it almost sounds like I'm have a twitchy time stretch on the audio. It keeps in sync with the video signal though. This only happens on channel 2 (Comcast cable).

I know I'll probably have to add more info, just let me know what information I can provide.

thanks,

I had this on the PBS station, and so did the fellow who did this writeup:

Taking his cue, I switched to "Transport Stream" recording, and that fixed it. See:

May or may not be applicable to your situation, of course. But it cleared it up for me.

My symptom was that it sounded like someone was talking into a fan. Everything sounded like helicopters.

The other audio probem that I had, where it would get wavery when the scenes were dark (yep, others had it too!) was cured with the extra audio buffering.

Ok, I managed to get VNC and SSH set up so I could check from a remote location (with at least a modest amount of security). I'm in the capture card settings page and I'm not seeing anything remotely resembling an "Advanced" options page. (from the linked URL--mythtv-setup capture cards, advanced, recording options PS/TS).

Is there a conf file that I might be able to adjust this in?

thanks,

It's there on my system, but maybe because I (and the author of that writeup) are using PC3000 cards in DVB mode?

I struggled with a similar situation several months back where a handful of channels had no audio or choppy audio. I fixed it by fine tuning the stations through the mythweb interface. A search for "fine tune" or "fine tuning" should find the thread, but suffice to say I had to add a 125 offset to those channels with audio problems. I'm not sure if this is relevant to your problem or not. I should mention that I have not had any of these issues since R5A16. BTW - I have a PVR-150 and use analog Comcast cable (Chicagoland area).

Just to give some feedback and info for anyone running into the same problem.

referring from http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=44701&

Note that the fine tune scale for the IVTV driver changed between the version used in R5A16 and R5A22. These values are only appropriate for the new drivers, and off by a factor of ~12 for the old ones.

I found an offset of 10 a little to high--8 seemed a bit better.

thanks,
