I was able to get the script mythlink.sh to work and fill the /myth/pretty directory with clean names of all my recorded programs. My question is what exactly else does this help with? Also, I checked the size of my recorded programs directory and the pretty directory, they roughly the same size. Does the mythlink.sh script copy the files as well as rename them? If so, I am going to have to add more Hard Drive space since it will double the space required.

Any help or other posts would be appreciated.

It only creates symbolic links in the /myth/pretty folder. These take up next to no space at all.

To dumb it down further a "symlink" is a symbolic link to the actual file and just a little file that is a pointer to the original.

The "use" of /myth/pretty is so you can connect to your mythbox over a network and watch the videos on your other computers (like a windows box without a mythtvfrontend). Or copy the shows off the mythbox in a ussable format and do whatever you want with them from there (edit, recompress, burn onto DVD, etc.).

Good information. I was hoping to hear that it doesn't actually copy itself as it renames the files. I was able to use Media Player Classic from my windoz box and play the files after I added the .nuv extension. I tried to use windoz media player by adding .mpg and got a no go. Does anyone know if the mthlink.sh script should be adding a file extension and what other formats/players/ tools can I use with the files that are created using mythlink.sh script.
