I've loaded mythtv r5a30.2. Upon start up I get an Nvidia "splash" type screen and the interface/gui shows up and works fine. As of yet, I haven't gotten tv to show up. I get lost when reading the posts about drivers, as new versions are released with more stuff, I can't figure out which things I have to do and what has been included in the upgraded versions.
Queston is, since that nvidia screen shows......am I good with the driver? Or do I need to run the script, like below...
"To install the nVidia drivers. Log in as root, R4VX type install-nvidia.sh R5AX type cd /usr/local/bin then type ls *nvidia* and then type install-nvidia-xxxx-debian.sh where xxxx is the driver version included in your KnoppMyth distribution. "
Thanks!

if the splash screen shows up you are fine on the driver install. the last few versions detect if you have a nvidia card and automatically install the driver for you.

batkins4127,
I am having the exact same problem!
However, because my video card is so old http://www.epinions.com/Visiontek_RIVA_ ... full_specs, I really don't think new drivers will help the situation.
None the less, I spent yesterday evening downloading the latest nvidia drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/freebsd_1.0-8178.html and attempting to install them. I followed the install instructions http://download.nvidia.com/freebsd/1.0- ... index.html, but ran into problems right away. I submitted the following problem description to nvidia:
"I downloaded 1.0-8178 FreeBSD driver and unzipped it. I ran:
Code: $ make install
at the root level of the directory created after unzipping. I got a "missing separator" error on line 20 of the Makefile. I then added a TAB character to line 20 and got a "No rule to make target 'install'" error."
Nvidia replied and directed me to http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdi ... forumid=14 to look for help so that is what I am doing now....
I will share what I learn.

batkins4127,
After I removed my pcHDTV card, to avoid potential conflicts with my PVR-350, my "Blackscreen" problem watching live TV was solved. Essentially, I did not need to modify anything (config files, BIOS settings, or video driver) and R5A30.2 just worked. Now I need to get sound, remote control, and TV-out working....

Nvidia dropped driver support for the TNT2 after 6111 I believe. You may to need an older driver.

actually I think the 6629 drivers still include TNT2 and they are on the cd.

I have not installed any nvidia drivers. How do I know which version of the driver I am running. I am planning on running on hdtv. Are the 8178 drivers the best for doing 720p and 1080i. If I do need to install them do I get them off of the nvidia website or using get apt.

nvidia-settings should tell you what version you are running. If I remember correctly it's the 6629 drivers that get installed, but I'm not sure. If you are going to output at 1080i you will need the 6629 or 8??? drivers the 7??? have a bug in 1080i. Many people say there are some bugs in the 8??? drivers and that the 6629 are still the best for 1080i.

It's the name of a utility program. Search the forum for more details.

The 7174 drivers were installed by defaulat. When I type the install command for the 6629 drivers the installation hangs and I end up with a blank screen. This happens everytime gdm starts. What am I doing wrong in the installation? I am using a geforce 6200. Currently I am trying to use my monitor. I figure I would get this changed before I try using my tv.

Reading the log file for the X server is you best bet for diagnosing this. It can be found at: /var/log/XFree86.0.log

I can't even putty into the system to see the log. I ended up using my boot to change inittab to 1 so I can install 8174. This installs fine. Only 6629 gives me a problem. Is there a problem with it and a 6200? I did read the log and could find no definite errors. Any suggestions.
