Hello Everyone,

Here is the issue that I am experiencing. The current kernel of R5A30.2, 2.6.13, locks up when the drivers for USB wireless LAN card Netgear WG111T are loaded using ndiswrapper and the card is inserted in the USB port. Sometimes, the kernel locks-up even during boot. Below is a list of things that I did before I came to the conclusion that compiling a custom kernel seems should be the only way to get a wireless LAN card Netgear WG111T working.

I tested this on a Debian server with kernel 2.6.15 with the latest version of ndiswrapper installed from source "the-debian-way" and the card was working flawlessly for some time without lock-ups, or disconnects.

I tried to install the new version of ndiswrapper on my MythTV box with apt-get, but this created a big mess and as a result ndiswrapper became unusable.

I compiled kernel 2.6.15 with the kernel config file /boot/config-2.6.13.2-chw-3. The result was that I could not use ivtv drivers and the system became unusable for its purpose.

I am currently unable to provide related logs. Please let me know if any are necessary and I will get them later at my earliest convenience.

Any information on how to compile a custom kernel will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Delyan

Hi

exactly the same problem I'm having. I've read in the raleigh forum groups that the problem lies in the WIFI usb drivers that dont like SMP+PREEMPT compile options of the kernel used in KnoppMyth

I've already compiled the kernel to non-smp, non-preempt. Got to the same point where you say you are (unusable ivtv). To my luck, I noticed in /usr/src that ivtv (sources) is there :) so I un-bzip2'ed and compiled. Now that is usable again. Did the same with lirc (that is there too!) so now I'm almost there :D

enjoy...

Forgot to say that my card is a "wg-167g" - ASUS 54g WIFI card. It uses the Raleigh chipset, so that is why I went there. Maybe you use the same - ndiswrapper failed totally  for me.

What does compiling a kernel have to do with MythTV? But I'll throw you a bone... If you compile a new kernel, you must recompile any additional module.
