I have knoppmyth box setup. I only use it for backend myth functions (I primarily do mythweb) and some samba file sharing.. When I have to reboot the server the mythfrontend automatically starts and have on more than one occasion hit a key on the keyboard and started live tv, then I can't record...

So how do I stop mythfrontend from autostarting???

Here's what I did:

edit /etc/inittab and change the default runlevel to 3:

# The default runlevel.
id:3:initdefault:

Then I changed the startup script:

mv /etc/rc3.d/S99gdm /etc/rc3.d/K99gdm

Then run the command:

telinit 3

or reboot.

Rather than manually messing with the init scripts, it is generally better to use udpate-rc.d which can create & remove links to the specified init script in the appropriate runlevels. There can be start & kill scripts in more than one runlevel.

Also if you still want X to run, just not the frontend, you can edit the mythtv user's apps file in ~/.fluxbox/. Look for the [startup] items there.
