All,

I have my Knoppmyth running, I am able to watch TV, and I am able to change channels with the command line directv.pl script. My DirectTV signal is going into the Composite input of the WinTV GO card (I am not using the tuner)

I have done Nothing with remote control setup yet. The WINTV GO card came with a REMOTE. Is this Remote just for the WINTV GO TUNER(which I am not using)?? Or can I use this remote to somehow send the command to do the directv.pl script??

Does LIRC solve this? I see that you have to pick which remote you have with LIRC, but how does it know that the Reciever is the WinTV GO card? Or do I have to have a separate IR detector somewhere?

thanks

The remote doen't control the tuner, it controls mythtv....simply sends keyboard commands tothe mythtv GUI.

It will work

Suppose you have a frontend with no tuner. Is there any hardware (card ?) that will get a remote IR to the Frontend Myth that's running ?

Yes. There are actually several. The USB based remotes are the most common, but there are also serial port ones both commerical and home made, and possibly add in cards.

Thanks tjc,

I was aware of IR blasters going the other way, didn't know remote hardware by USB was available. (Or whether a Myth front end would listen to it...)

Provided the remote is supported by lirc, you are good to go.
You just need to configure lirc on the frontend.

build your own serial receive...$10 worth of parts at radio shack.

6 parts including the D-Sub serial connector....first circuit I ever built, easy and fun.

Thanks everyone. I feel I am making some progress, but a new question:

I have the SILVER hauppauge remote, but I have the WINTV GO. Will the setup for a PVR150 (that also has a Silver remote) work for me? Or do I have to make changes somewhere?
