 Post subject: *.nuv player for linux?

sooo now that i got my lappy running linux i needa be able2 play the nuv files on my mythbox... cant play them on my lappy... i tried googeling for linux versions of the filters, no avail. anybody know how i can get the files playing in debian? er an app that is confirmed working? a codec?
anything???

I use VLC (videolan.org).

It works great.

It depends on that format your .nuv files are. If you use a hauppauge card the file is actually an mpeg file with a .nuv extention.

BTW, MythTv .19 doesn't store hauppauge recordings as .nuv's anymore.

ryanpatterson brought up a good point. What capture card are you using? I'm using the PVR-500 which does hardware encoding. I'm not sure what other cards do.

Well, I'm using Windows on my laptop and I can just transfer them over and play them (I did have to initially pick VLC as the default app to play the files).

On my linux machine (not the knoppmyth box) running blag (blagblagblag.org) I had to install VLC using synaptic... yeah, I'm a noob. I transfer the files off of the knoppmyth box to either the Windows machine or the blag one and open them with VLC just as easily as if they were AVI's.

As far as the vlc website, they have links to precompiled binaries or to the source to let you compile it on your own.

er its not anything special DEFINATLY not a hardware encoder....
bt7870 chipset or something like that... i dont rember off the top of my head.
ill try out vlc l8r 2night
