I can boot from the R4V2 CD and have cd-rom only front-end (e.g no hard disk needed) , which works perfectly, playback from the back-end is fine etc etc.

If I do an automated install to hard-disk on the front end, then on playback I get jerky video and audio playback, in that it plays for 2 seconds then stops for about 2 then again etc, during the delay the whole front-end is locked up - any ideas?

All I did was an automated install, then ran KnoppMyth.frontend to force the hd install to be a 'remote front end' only, then disabled mythbackend and mysql.

Is there an easy way to get the *exact* CD-boot install to a hard disk, so I can add my smbmounts and nfs etc and save my configs...?? thats *all* I want, so I can tweak the install and have it 'stick' so when my wife turns off the front end it comes up again with the right configs!!!

Mart.

would be even better if you could save the frontend config files on the backend server

I think I'll try implementing a PXE/TFTP boot of the front-end from the back-end, that would be even cooler, so the front-end distro wouldnt even be needed, nor the cd-rom. 8-)

Bad news,
This problem went away when I took the plunge and upgraded to the myth 0.15 pre-release from CVS (after imaging the hard disk of the back-end), but now it's back again 8-(

I've built several front-ends on mized hardware and it's a constant issue, I'll post the solution when I find it, but the back-end is suspect.

martynah,

Where is KnoppMyth.frontend located? I am trying to get a remote front end set up right now, but things are not quite right. Can you outline in a little more detail what steps are needed to set up a remote frontend that is installed on the HD? I have found very little documentation on it.

Once I get mine going, I can help report any problems I encountered.
