I ran prep-ts and got everything working. I can boot and run Mythtv. however, there is no audio. If I boot off the CD and run frontend, audio works. So what is the difference, snd what do I need to do to get it to work from the diskless image?

There should be no difference. When booting diskless, does the audio card get detected? When booting from the CD, do you use any boot parameters? Did you try running
Code:
/etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig start
After a diskless boot?

Ok, tried that. I ran it on the server, and it ran without errors. I tried running it on FE but it gave an error about not being able to write to /tmp.

Still no sound.

Does the diskless FE use the server sound card, or it's own?

My card is a C-MEDIA CM8738. Do I need to specify the module in the terminalserver setup or something?

It usess it own. Not being able to write to /tmp is most likely the problem. No solution off hand and it will probably take some time to look at this...

Well, since it's a ramdisk that would preclude any write access. I did notice the audio module is being loaded at boot time.

By the way, why was my other poste deleted? All I wanted was to be able to see my recorded videos on the FE. Is this standard practice?

So, in summary what I have gathered so far about a diskless FE:

No audio(no way to configure it)
No NFS or SAMBA mounts

So that pretty much leaves it as a coolness factory with a nice menu, and nothing more. Kind of useless wouldn't you say? So what's the point of making it available if it doesn't work?

Have you ever considered the possibility that you could modify the image directly and burn a custom CD?

Sadly, CD's are written and can't store information beyond that (especially when the disk is full). But have you considered a jumpdrive or flashcard? they are cheap and can be wired directly into the most compact of machines..
