Ok I have searched and search for a while. Time to post the question:

I have HDTV from comcast and I have tired to get the firewire running correctly but it just doesnt want to work right.

My problem is that if you try to goto any hd or even premium channels the recorder stops working.. It times out, although not the normal 15sec time out problem. It just says the recorder has not responded.
If I am on any other channel it works fine.
I have tried every post in here about firewire and from google as well. None of it seems to work with the hd channels. I even called Comcast to see if the firewire was diabled for premium channels, and they say that it is enabled.

My question is, is there any capture cards that will take the output form the comcast box then into myth? Just like a pvr-350 but for high def content.

PLEASE HELP!!

Here is my combo:
2.8HT P4
Cube system
(2) PVR-350's
Firewire Comcast
R5C7 installed with FE and BE setup correctly

Other than firewire, no. You can try an HD tuner using QAM.

QAM- This only gets like 4 channels off of the box? am I correct with that asumption? I see the other posts about it, but there is no clear statement that I can see anyways.

Sorry for these questions but since there is already a post might as well, right?

so you are saying that regular channels work fine through the firewire, but when you try an hdtv channel it messes up? Do you see the digital box change the station? I know if you go to a channel that doesn't exist (yes comcast moves them around sometimes :x ) then the channel will change on the box, but not go back to time (considering you have time as your default) and it will time out. Also you need to make sure your channel numbers match up to comcast for the channel changing. No 8-1 like people do for ota.

yes that is exactly what I am saying....

The myth box freezes and then I have to back into setup and then I have to change the channel back to channel 2 for example for the myth box to respond again. yes the box changes channels and then on HD channels thats all it does. Then it complains that there is no NUV file to play about 20 times then the tuner will not longer work untill I reset the channel number again.

The channels are matched up with zap2it. Also I cannot change the broadcast to 1 in the plugctl commands. I dont know if that has got anything to do with it.

I would really like to be able to use that setup if possible.

have you tried changing to those channels directly on the digital cable box, my question is are you sure that zap2it has the right channel numbers? I've seen the problems you are describing, but only a couple of times and it turned out comcast had moved some channels and I had to go update my zap2it account and redownload all the listings.

basically the problem in my case was there was nothing on that channel, or at least nothing that my package allowed.

also a long time ago (and I'm not really sure what changed) I had that problem, and it seemed to clear up when I connected the svideo cable to one of the other inputs on the tv, like the box just wanted to know I had something other than firewire connected, though that is not necessary now.

Well to be honest to you, one of your other posts might have explained a few things.
1. when I turn to a channel that is not support/HDTV or other pay channel the screen goes black and then its almost like the firewire dissapears from myth. Then if I change the channel on the backend it comes back.

I think its the 5C encryption stuff kickin in. When I change to an encrypted channel its goes down hill from there. But that might not be the case because if I change to a HD channel as well it does that. There are only like 5 channels that I can get without problems.

As far as the channel alignement is concered, I just downloaded/setup the channel info a few days ago, you think it could still be that?

Why do you say that? I will try this as well...

I say that because I have since moved things around a few times and don't actually have the svideo connected at the moment and it's still working.

Basically in my experience getting firewire working is kinda hit or miss I haven't found a sure fire setup, but once it's working its great it's not like it breaks. Also I do know that which firewire port I use from my cable box makes a difference, but as I remember it nothing worked on one of the ports. Also many people have had success trying to change between p3p and broadcast for the firewire setup.

Which STB do you have? I have the moto 6200, so it's the exact one the drivers are written for. That may make some difference as well though I've heard many people have success with the 64?? using the 6200 setting as well.
