I'm currently setting up an ubuntu-mythtv backend/frontend for the basement, as I need the computer to handle a few other tasks, and it should be easier than trying to do that with knoppmyth.

But, upstairs I want a simple front end, I may try an XBox eventually...but I'm not quite ready to try modding it. I was considering just using my regular windows pc, and hoping there was a myth distro (knopp) that I could just put in the cd drive, boot, and have a front end, without having to install anything on the harddrive...

...will this work?

Oh...sweet. It'd be great if someone could make a dvd that would just "work" like that in an xbox...

I'm pretty sure the MythTV versions must be the same

dont know anything about that as I've only made one box so far... and that was only a few months ago... I would hope they build in some backwards compatability

you can always upgrade the server

I dont think the version mathing is a function of the live CD, I think all frontends need to be same mythtv version as backend

Probably, but that has nothing to do with the linux distribution used to run mythtv. Currently 0.19.

Cool, thanks.

Now if I could just get my backend working!

I'd love to just install knoppmyth on it, it worked so well before. BUT I want a full linux install so I can set that box up to be a mail server, and perform a few other tasks...

*le sigh*

might be easier to add 'a few tasks' to a knoppmyth box then to add mythtv and the dependancies to a non-knoppmyth box

If I could get a gnome GUI installed...then yes, it probably would be simpler...

ps and QMail...gotta get that installed too.

this would quite likely spell disaster in current versions of knoppmyth.

Well, KDE or Gnome, it doesn't really matter...it'd be great if there was a way to install one of them.
