Ha!
Well, I'e been knocking around this forum for some tme. Often asking obvious and stupid questions, but recently when I was havnig a problem with my network (still unsolved) and was considering albeit briefly going back to Mico$oft because I thought perhaps it was driver realted or something.
Then my friend Graham came over.
I hadn't seen Graham for a while, the last time I saw him I'd just bid on an Nforce 2 mobo on ebay to resolve my DMA issues I'd been having with a VIA board. At the time I showed him mysettopbox and was explaining how great it was going to be. We were sitting in the pub looking at all the cool features Myth had on his pda.
So when he came over last saturday he began telling me about his new purchase.
A media centre with Windows Media Centre upon it.
He was saying about ease of use how pretty it looked etc. And truely some of the features he described were nice sounding. MS have, it seemed pulled out lots of stops to get it lookin pretty.
I had to conceed that, while Myth is pretty enough (I use Retro as my theme of choice) MS have the edge. But Myth won hands down in virtually every other area - apparently there are so many bugs with the system and they just aren't fixing them.
The only other area that could be improved we decided was the tweeking necessary for setting up. It seemed MSMedia Centre isn't immune to this though - he has the same router as I do (a Netgear WGT624v3) and he had real rpoblems getting it to allow him to use the internet wirelessly.
He was especially impressed with the Mythburn and the way it burns DVD's in the format that stand alone players use.
He said he was goign to stay with Microsoft, because his media centre is the main house PC. But he'll be making it dual boot next weekend.
Thanks to Cecil and Dale and all those coders that have made Myth what it is today. - Every release seems to be getting easier to set up.
I am certainly looking forward to the next release (roll on R6)
