How can you tell what software versions are contained inside a particular kernel version?

For example, how can you tell what version of the ALSA sound drivers are part of kernel 2.6.17.8?

Is the information somewhere at www.kernel.org? If so, where on the site? I looked and did NOT see it.

Thanks,
Eric

I'm wondering about what package versions are inside kernels without having to install them. (a preview of kernel contents)

Is there a website that lists the versions of the drivers and applications contained inside a particular kernel version?

Before I gave the example of ALSA drivers, but I'm also interested in finding out the versions of other package components too.

Eric

Not that I'm aware of... If you've installed the kernel, take a look at the config file in /boot/.
