I have had this b4 with dvb cards before. The backend has already got control over the card so you can't scan for channels.

Before you enter setup stop the backend it will then scan.

BTW - Before the next question comes up, this page has directions for getting back into the backend setup program, along with stopping and restarting the backend server. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=GettingBackIntoMytTVsetup

It will recognize the card, and will scan the card, but never finds anything. I have tried both input's with a phillips free-to-air ATSC and NSTC powered antenna.

when it asks about the ATSC modulation I use 8-VSB, frequency table is broadcast, and I think I have everything correct. anyone have any ideas?

hello... total knewb here... first thanks not only to those who have developed knoppmyth, but to all the people who have posted solutions to their problems on this board!

ok... i'm having the same problem as djpm05 with an atsc-110 card, clean auto install with R5E50. my dmesg has the lines indicated earlier in this thread:
Code:
saa7133[0]: subsystem: 17de:7350, board: Kworld ATSC110 [card=90,autodetected]

so i know that knoppmyth sees the card. however, when i go into setup and try to set my capture card, the atsc-110 isn't recognized under the generic DVB DTV setting. it says something like device not found (however, if i choose the pcHDTV DVB setting the name of the card appears on the setup screen... won't find any channels on scan, though).

anyone know what i'm doing wrong? or can better guide me though diagnosing the problem? djpm05, did you resolve this?

you may want to check and see if the cards firmware is getting loaded.

As root, execute the following:

Code:
dmesg | grep firmware nxt

You should see something like this:

Code:
root@mythtv:~# dmesg | grep nxt
nxt200x: NXT2004 Detected
nxt2004: Waiting for firmware upload (dvb-fe-nxt2004.fw)...
nxt2004: Waiting for firmware upload(2)...
nxt2004: Firmware upload complete
root@mythtv:~#

I've got a new one, just plugged in today. No joy, on R5E50

root@mythtv:~# dmesg | grep nxt
nxt200x: nxt200x_readbytes: i2c read error (addr 0x0a, err == -121)

I followed the wiki writeup as close as possible, placing the firmware file in /lib/firmware, and modifying the /etc/modules.
However, here's where things deviated:
Quote:
Edit your /etc/modules file and insert an 'saa7134-dvb' right after the saa7134 entry that should already exist in the file

I didn't have an entry for saa7134!
So I added it, and added the new entry.
Didn't work. So I moved it around a couple of times, no good.
The card setup says it's not there. Probably due to dmesg error above. Anybody have this working on R5E50?

ok... tried all of the add firmware instructions i could find from the forums and the wikis. the setup also still tells me that there is now card attached. when i do a
Code:
dmesg | grep nxt
i get absolutely nothing.

so i'm assuming that knoppmyth is finding my card, but not loading the firmware. would a clean install of R5D1 and then an upgrade to R5E50 work? is there another way to force the firmware to load? any luck, thornsoft?

I'm running on R5D1 right now.

Here is a copy of my /etc/modules file, you may want to check that you have saa7134 and saa7134_dvb loading.

Code:
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line.  Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.

did a new install with R5D1 and had no problem finding the card... now if i only had a worthwhile antenna i might be able to scan some channels (but that's a chore for another night).

seems the problem lies with R5E50... it doesn't seem to want to load the firmware. i might try the upgrade from R5D1 and see if that works.

In my previous post, I said that I was using R5D4 when in fact it is R5D1.

If I recall correctly, the firmware won't load until you do the first scan. So try logging in and running the following:

Code:

atscscan -A 1 -vvv atsc/us-ATSC-center-frequencies-8VSB > channels.conf

Then check dmesg and see if it tried to load the firmware.

I bought the card mainly because it had the ATSC and S-Video capabilities, but at the end of the day, at least based on my playing with it, you have to set it up as ATSC OR S-Video. If you try to configure both thing get a little strange.

The quality of the recordings is great, however the size of the files are HUGE, a 30 minute recording is over 4GB.

With all of the work it took to get the card working, and the fact that the remote doesn't work (or at least I've not found anybody who has it working) I should have probably waited and purchased a HDTV card with an MPEG2 processor on board.

There is a patch which someday I'm going to submit to v4l. It's not 100%.

Looks like the new version R5E50 does not load the saa7134-dvb module properly. The saa7134 module does find the atsc110 card. But never loads the firmware or frontend.

Looks like the modules file is a little skimpy.

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.

# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line. Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.

I have no clue why the saa7134-dvb refuses to load when the entry in modules is there.
I have even compiled a fresh v4l/dvb cvs and installed it.

Here the saa7134 is loading fine. Finds the ATSC110.

I'm having conversation with myself....

Looks like there is an issue with the firmware in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware. That firmware does not work properly. I copied recently downloaded firmware and replaced/copied into
both /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and /lib/firmware.

Bingo... dvb frontend loaded the nxt2004 firmware.
