Before you do that I would recommend making sure your network cable to the backend is perfect. I would be a shame to find out all the was wrong was the cable....

I checked actually... pretty sure that's not the case. When I compare the crossover results @ mtu=1500 to the through-the-switch results:
Code:
crossover   time (sec)   MB/sec   Mbps
myth to win     48       21.3   171
win to myth     81       12.6   101

switch   time (sec)   MB/sec   Mbps
myth to win     45       22.8   182
win to myth     99       10.3   83

They aren't off by that much.

One thing I will say about netgear is they have a great warranty on their "blue box" stuff: 5 years on the unit and 2 years on the power supply (its under 1 year old).

Too bad that warranty is only a piece of paper, tho. I had a network printer box that developed a problem -- a screeching whine. Probably a DC-to-DC converter. Netgear would NOT issue an RMA for the box. Kept saying, "if it still prints, it works. No RMA." I finally threw it away, and needless to say I don't buy any Netgear stuff now. A warranty is only as good as the people who stand behind it.

That sucks... I've always had a good experience with them (once thankfully). We'll see about this. I just bought a brand new GS108 (totally different look by the way compared to my version) and it WORKS with jumbo frames. To me, this is an open and shut case: they need to RMA this unit and send me a new one.

Here is an update -- After 45 minutes on the phone with netgear in India I was sent into their level 2 support here in the 'States. I spoke w/ some guy in CA for about 3 minutes who agreed to RMA my switch.... it cost me $20 which covers shipping from them to me and a return label from me to them.

Guess I can't really bitch about it. Oh, and the replacement model will have a new 5-year warranty starting from the day I receive it which is pretty cool.
