Hi all,

I recently got a pair of hd5500s and got them installed next to my two PVR 250s by upgrading to R5D1 (without the HD5500s in the box - added them later). So far I haven't had any negative side effects - (Thanks everyone! great work!)

My goal is grab the digital cable that I have access to that is not encrypted. I can add the cards without any problems in "capture cards" but I am a little lost from here. I have the line-up content available in "video sources", and I appear to be able to lock on to QAM256 when doing a scan in "input connections" ... but when I try to watch the content I get a black screen for 20 seconds then I am thrown back to the menu. After changing the starting channel, I was able to see the info about the channel I was on, but then after a short delay I get thrown to a generic error message without seeing any video.

All that to say, I have a couple of questions:

1) Do the HD3000 threads from R5Ax still apply to my situation? (like editing XMLID, etc)
2) What is the difference between the cable scan types? (cable IRC, HRC, etc)
3) What should I choose for ... (can't think of the option name) 5_1,5-1, etc ... channel separators?
4) What is the implication of my having channels 61#0, 61#1, etc. Are these 610, 611, etc?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

PS: Off topic issue: R5D1 appears to ignore my DisplaySize 520 310 that gave me nice sized screen fonts. I tried: Option "UseEDiDpi" "100,100" which didn't help. Anybody have a fix for this?

I'm having a similar issue. Sorry I don't have a fix, I'm mainly just posting here so that I can keep track of this thread in case someone comes up with a fix for you.

I too want to grab unencrypted digital signals off cable but R5D1 won't scan them. I tried installing R5E50 and channel scanning worked but there is something in R5E50 which loads my system down too much( XvMC bug? ) so I have to go back to R5D1.

I have the backup files from the channel scan of R5E50 but there have been database changes which prevent direct uploading.

I'm hoping there is some 'trick' to getting R5D1 to scan those upper channels using QAM-256 over cable.

What tuner are you using, and what does "upper channels" mean? Have you setup another lineup at Zap2It for your QAM signals? See http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13332

The Big Game, for me anyway, was Nov 18th in Columbus, Ohio (R.I.P. Glenn).

it's a pchd3000 and by upper channels I mean over 100 and, IIRC, in the 700 range.

I didn't get Myth to do the scan but I used the channel editor to delete all channels. Then stopped the backend and and then used atscscan to generate a channels.conf file that I pared to just those with real names. Then, used mythtv-setup to insert the channels.conf file. THAT seemed to get me some channels which work.

R5E50 worked nicely with regard to finding/scanning for QAM channels. There are many other nice features but even with all my perf-optimizations it just wasn't going to cut it on the Athlon 2600+ w/512MB and the Nvidia 5200 w/XvMC. Maybe R5D1 will be better.

I do have a Zap2it account but those channels are not recognized by the pchd3000 using QAM. I will see if I can use that info and punch in the IDs so that the guide will work.


Ahhh yes, great game. We have a traditional S.B. party so it would be nice to have the HD set functional.
