I sit in stunned silence. In this post:

I detailed my issue with Comcast and the copy-protect flag on two HD channels.
Quote:
I got Comcast to send a technician to my house last Thurs to see the problem with those two HD channels. He, of course, could do nothing. He volunteered to push the problem up to Maintenance, then he left. I called Comcast the next day to follow-up, and they, of course, promised to call me back.
They never called, so I called today. Same promise. However, the Curious Observation: I was on hold with Comcast as they checked, so I pulled up the diagnostics screen on the cable box that shows the status of the copy-protection. Channel 803 (ABC-HD) is still copy-protected (CCI=0x02 and RC=0x01). Channeld 806 (NBC-HD) is not (CCI=0x00 and RC=0x00)!
I noticed that Channel 803 (ABC-HD) is no longer copy-protected as of this morning (CCI=0x00 and RC=0x00)!

I filed a complaint with the FCC earlier this week (thanks Liv2Cod!).
Today, I lost my internet connectivity, which prompted a call to Comcast. During our troubleshooting routine, the Comcast rep offered:
1) 6 months service @ $19.95/month as an incentive special something-or-other.
2) to waive a $33 "service visit" charge (which is illegal anyway, and this is the third time they've tried this tactic...I wonder how many folks just pay the damn bill and never look at it...?)
3) a $20 "gift" for the trouble I've been experiencing
4) to knock $25 off my bill for the time I've lost internet connectivity
I did NOT ask for any of this (except for the "service visit" waiver), they just volunteered it.
Now, I'm a pretty satisfied customer, for the most part. Whenever I see a problem with my cable/internet connection, I usually wait a bit to see if they correct it, then I'll call.
I have no intention of going to another provider like Dish or DirecTV, mostly because I can't use a firewire connection between their hardware and my KnoppMyth setup (I think this is still correct...? Satellite provider hardware does not have IEEE 1394 ports...?).
Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out what happened today. Dream? Hallucination?
Weird.
