It would be a great service to the knoppmyth user base is someone on the team would cobble together the actual procedure that works to get these drivers to work on the latest version, rather than endlessly pointing to ancient threads that are incomplete, 3 pages long and outdated.

Give an auto-install of knoppmyth it shouldn't be such a burden to get a simple driver to compile and install. Its a perfect example of open source in its ugliest form. Why one user after another has to face the same nightmare over and over, when it seems that almost everyone is using nvidia cards, seems utterly ridiculous. You've taken the concept of plug-and-play and made is so difficult and time consuming that many of your efforts are just wasted overall.

One problem is that the nVidia Drivers are NOT open source. Don't blame the knoppmyth/linux community for nVidia's shortcomings.

It looks like the KnoppMyth Wiki was updated today. It appears to have a pretty good write up and a section for version R5E50.

So, I'm unsure from reading your message if you're having trouble compiling the nVidia drivers or if you're having trouble with getting xorg to work with your nVidia card. More details (and less rant) might actually get you some constructive advice.

I'm not even sure what I did to get my nVidia card working. Ok, I do know what I did. I sat in front of my TV with a laptop with almost a dozen browser screens open with all kinds of things to try. Being the least important thing I can do for my family I was doing a lot of this at odd hours until I realized it was working the way it should. I feel his pain and frustration.

However, to the OP, MythTV is at release 0.20. This is definitely beta, and only for those who can handle getting their hands dirty with this stuff.

You are actually in a position to be of a lot of help. Document what you do and what the results are and you can share that information with everyone, which gets us that much closer to a finished product. I'm sorry I didn't do that, but as I face future "challenges" that's what I'll be doing.
