I am running v5c7 on a master BE and a slave FE. Since they connect via a 802.11g wireless I have also set up an autofs usb external drive (ext2 formatted) so I can do large multiGig file transfers (super sneakernet).
Everything works fine with plugging in my drive. I can access to my hearts content. The problem is the timeout parameter in the /etc/auto.master does not work. I have to /etc/init.d/autofs stop, then unplug, then /etc/init.d/autofs restart to get rid of the mount.

auto.master :

# KNOPPIX automounts for floppy and cdrom(s), see knoppix-autoconfig
/mnt/auto /etc/auto.mnt --timeout=2
/var/autofs/usb /etc/auto.usb --timeout=2
/mnt/auto /etc/automount.sh --timeout=2

auto.usb :

sda -fstype=auto,atime :/dev/sda1
sdb -fstype=vfat,uid=1002,gid=1002,umask=002,noatime :/dev/sdb1

Shouldn't the drive dismount after 2 secs of inactivity, then remount on the next access ?

I've seen refs on the web that the timeout did not work for some versions of autofs. Is the v5c7 version of autofs one of them.

Thanks

Turns out it's Samba screwing up the autofs timeout. It does eventually umount but after minutes not 2 secs. It umount correctly if I stop the samba services.

Anyone know if this can be addressed. I've googled myself blue on the issue and can't find anything applicable.

Thanks
