Does the schedule recording program within MythTV call nvram-wakeup routine ? That way it would boot the system if it is down around the time it is supposed to record.

of course that only works if you can boot your machine w/ the lan connected w/o getting blinky-blink

Seems MythTV does not support what I was looking for 'To powerup the system just before a recording if the system is off, automatically'. You need to run a script to read the schedules and run nvram-wakeup based on the decision you come to, before shutting down the system.
