I recently upgraded to R5F1 and ever since I can't seem to get the clock fixed and have it stay fixed.

It seems that no matter what I do as soon as I restart ntpd it breaks again. I checked /etc/timezone and it has the correct US/Central.

I've re-run tzselect a couple times and same thing, it doesn't stay fixed.

I tried to manually set the hwclock to the correct time, then sync the hwclock to the system clock and then restart ntpd:

root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# date
Mon May 21 22:23:44 PDT 2007
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# hwclock --set --date="5/22/07 00:24"
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# hwclock --hctosys
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# date
Tue May 22 00:24:13 PDT 2007
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# /etc/init.d/ntp restart
Stopping NTP server: ntpd.
Starting NTP server: ntpd.
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# date
Tue May 22 00:24:21 PDT 2007
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# date
Tue May 22 00:24:24 PDT 2007
root@mythtv:/var/lib/ntp# date
Mon May 21 22:24:37 PDT 2007

The programming seems to get recorded ok but the entire program guide is also off by 2 hours. It's getting kinda annoying.

Ok, the problem was that according to the tzselect man page the command does not actually change the timezone. The correct command to run was:

# dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

It seems to be sticking now.

Ooops! This only solved half my problem. The backend is now fixed but the same command does not seem to work on the frontend:

root@mythfe1:/home/greg# dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
dpkg-query: failed to open package info file `/var/lib/dpkg/status' for reading: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: tzdata is not installed

This is just a stab in the dark, but have you checked your settings in Myth-Setup. You set the timezone in there as well and this maybe where the FE is getting the info from.
