My Hardware:
AMD Athlon XP 1733MHz
256MB RAM
MSI K7 Master (MS-6341) Motherboard
AMD 761 Northbridge chipset
VIA VT82C686B southbridge
Generic BT878 TV capture card
Matrox G2+/MILA/8N Video card
Sound Blaster Live

Just Installed:
KnoppMyth R4V4.1
Registered on zap2it and myth filldatabase populated the channels with information correctly

Problem:
I get the green screen with the line of colored static at the top of the screen no matter what channel I turn to.

What I have tried:
I have already used the search function on this forum, used various search engines, and viewed the install manuals. I still have not seen anything that helps.
- Pressing "c" or "r" does not fix the problem
- Using mythfilldatabase does not solve the problem
- Swapping out the video card with a Radeon 7500 has same "green screen" result.
- Reinstalling didn't help
- Swapping out the TV card for an STB TV PCI has the same effect.

Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on?
BTW: I am an extreme newbie at Linux... please be gentle :)

Try capturing at a lower resolution.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I just tried using the <CTRL><ALT><-> key combination and was able to go to two lower screen resolutions. For each of the two lower resolutions I used the mouse to go to the edges of the screen make sure I saw the whole picture.

The whole picture is still a green screen with the line of static up above as described.

Any more suggestions?

I meant capture at a lower resolution not reduce X's resolution. Configure Myth to capture at a lower resolution.

I went to:
Setup>TV Settings>Recording Profiles>Software Encoders>Live TV> Then I changed tried:
160X160 (This produced the same green screen)
240X240 (This produced the same green screen)
480X480 (This produced the same green screen, it was already at this resolution to begin with)

While at the 160X160, after using the default settings, I also tried various combinatinos of uncompress sound, and MPEG4 compressed video.

Next suggestion?

How? Please describe how I would go about checking this and what the "correct" tuner option would be. What do I look for? How do I find it?

The place I've most commonly seen the green screen with a static bar is when the coax cable is not connected to the card, or connected to the wrong jack.

For example, my card has two coax connectors. One is actually for a cable/antenna connection. The second is for an FM radio antenna connection.

Is it possible that you've got the cable connected to the wrong input?

I have the same problem (green picture with static noise at the top). I have no solution yet, but a workaround:

1)exit mythtv
2)open an xterm
3) execute xawtv (lif you don't have it: apt-get install...)
4) change channels on xawtv
5) exit xawtv
6) start mythtv again

Now I can see the last cahnnel I selected in xawtv. I can not change the channel in the mythv application (I'm still configuring my linux box).
I'm searching the problem in myth - all cabels are correct (xawtv is showing correct TV output)

Regards,
Lars

I had the exact same issue until I reinstalled Knoppmyth using the steps in this post: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1779

I do have an nvidia card though so that may be the difference.
