Following most of the post on the different forums, and some others else ware I have slightly better tv fill from my gforce4 card's svideo out. I pretty much now fill the 32" TV left to right, and on the bottom, but there is about a 3/4" black bar across the top. I have tried various overscan setting in the XF86Config-4 file, and am actually using the XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample as my XF86Config-4 file. I used this as my starting point. Overscan from the front end settings doesn't really help, in fact it makes it worse. The other thing I tried was shifting the picture up from the fronted settings, this only shifts it up with in that existing picture that is 3/4" to short. This then creates an empty X background area bellow the image. When X is loading or switching modes (I cannot manually switch now using the nvidia sample file) the screen is pretty much filled, that black bar at the top is gone.

Different over-scan options do not fix this, an external connector is not really a good solution for the way this will be setup, and with the gforce4 nvtv will not work.

Probably the easiest way to fix this would be to up the overscan in the XF86Config-4 file till output filled the whole screen (I know this will chop the edges and bottom off read on) Then use the frontend to underscan and move the output horizontally and vertically until it fits right.

Boy have I tried that 2 dozen times. I have gone from 0 through 1 on the over scan setting. It does not change this problem. Very frustrating. Now with SPDIF audio working, my only real but BIG flaw is it not filling the screen well. I went ahead and tried a gf2mx card I had laying around to see if it made a difference. It at least has the problems others have experienced in the threads, but even with nvtv I just can't seem to get a combination of over/under-scan that both gives decent results with the frontend and watching tv. The Horz. over scan needs to be a little wide because of some slight pinch on the LR of the tv, Most of the over/under stuff on the front end really doesn't effect much because X11 is not filling enough to begin with. Or WAY to much to be compensated for. Again, even with a virgin install, and using the nvidia tvout sample config, I can't seem to get much love...

I never could quite get nvtv to work right with the gf4 card. I found the mobo video out plate that lets me use the svideo out from the header on the on board video of the nforce2 board. It works perfectly, but the picture is dim, muddy, and just not acceptable. Having given up on the gf4, and now the on board video out, I am trying to find a pvr350 to see if it would be any better for output.

well all gforce tvout is pretty poor quality without any tweaks, but if you use xv color controls and tweak them you can get it to look pretty good.

the xv controls help some, but even with tweaking that and the tv directly it just dosn't cut it. I have a pvr350 being shipped, so I hope to have it tomorrow. I hope that once I can get through getting it all set up, the video would be better. We will see. Everything I have so far can still be returned. :-)
