Hello, I have a PVR-250 FREESTYLE that I cannot get to work. The card works perfectly in windows but it's a no go in knoppmyth. In the log is shows the card as
Philips FM1236 MK3 (idx 58 , type 43)
Has anyone been able to get this card to work, or have any ideas to try?

Define "cannot get to work".

You will have to excuse me I am fairly new to linux. When I say it will not work, I get a black screen. I have tried that wiki link to fix the black screen, but it does not work, since it says use
options ivtv tuner=38 for Philips FM1216ME MK5
I have Philips FM1236 MK3. I assume that this method would work if knew the correct tuner type to use but 38 does not work.
Also it says for new knoppmyth versions to modify the /etc/modprobe.conf
I am using R5F1, and I could not find this file. So I made it myself. Is this the correct thing to do?

Read through that link again, paying special attention to " Under "2. Capture Cards", make sure you have your capture card defined correctly." Did you configure your card as "Analog V4L capture card" or "MPEG-2 encoder card"?

Yes I have selected MPEG2 encoder. Following the troubleshooting guide I end up at the capturecards link, which contains the intructions I was referring to.
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ptureCards
However I am going to start from scratch and follow the instructions again from step one. Maybe I will have some luck this time.

It would also help if you provided more details. What other hardware does the system have? What settings have you selected? What do the logfiles say?

My system consists of:
Asus A7N8X-X Mobo
512 DDR Kingston
Nvidia GForce MX-4000
80GB Fujitsu HDD
Hauppaggue PVR-250 FREESTYLE
The settings I have chosen are mostly default, I chose AUTO install. I Chose MPEG2 Encoder PVR-X50 in the setup, however is says FAILED TO OPEN and I cant get much further after that. I have been able to select MPEG2 if I first select Analog V4L Capture Card, then when I go back to it, it detects is under MPEG2, but I get the black screen during live TV.
Here is the log of what I think is important. if there is a log that is more useful, please tell me where the find it.

That is not an ivtv compatible card. See: http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Supported_hardware under "Known to NOT work"
Quote: Conexant Blackbird Design (there is a driver here; this driver is being integrated into the cx88 driver) (CX23416 MPEG1/2 Encoder combined with the CX23880 Audio/Video Digitizer). See the v4l wiki for more details. Due to a drastically different design, based around the CX88 driver, ivtv will never work with this platform. Parts of ivtv could be used in a new driver (best incorporated into the cx88 tree), but we're a long way from that point. A list of known cards that follow this reference design:
* Hauppauge Rev 28xxx (has no IR port), code name: Roslyn. Sometimes (to maximize confusion?) called a 'PVR250MCE'. This [1] is what the Roslyn card looks like. Note the cx23880 close to the PCI socket and the cx23416 and its sdram 'behind' it.
I do not know what the correct card type to use for the CX88 driver is. The sites linked from the IVTV page above might point you in the right direction.
